USC Morning Buzz: Does Lincoln Riley Know It’s Rivalry Week?

Lincoln Riley did not appear on the Trojans Live radio show Monday Night. It’s also USC-UCLA week. Is that a big game?

Did Nick Saban ever blow off his weekly radio show the week of the Iron Bowl (Auburn-Alabama)? Should I research if John McKay passed on his TV show the week of the USC-UCLA game?

Does anyone tell Lord Lincoln what to do? Even with a 5-5 record? Not in this athletic dept.

  • George Tirebiter is secure in his doghouse.
  • I don’t know why the Hecuba statue (conceived by Max Nikias) or the statue of Traveler (a gift from Steven Sample) are also covered. No one cares about them.

  1. Wiley may know nothing about the SC-YUCLA rivalry, but he knows something about keeping a job. I’m sure he’s motivated for this game

  2. It is a different institution today. The rush to become a global university means many undergrads have little interest in football, much less even know about the rivalry.

Growing up in LA, I remember the entire city seemed to stop on that Saturday. The kids on both teams were largely from the LA area, they knew each other, they played against each other in high school. The ’67 game was “the game of the century.” The ’69 game was electric with Sam’s catch in the corner of the end zone.

The baby bruins are awful. USC should win by 2 TD, but Riley will find a way to make it close.

    1. Yep, even if both teams or one team wasn’t good, there was still a buzz, now, no buzz.

And most of those foreign students won’t give back to the school after they graduate.

    2. Agree with 67 – that USC is a different institution today. Need further proof. Look a the girls(?) seated below the Pagan statue. Kids used to go to USC hoping to find their sweetheart. That is not happening anymore.

      1. USC and UCLA both used to draw most of their student body from the LA-OC-SD area, although when I was there a common joke was that it was the University of Saudi California, thanks to all the petroleum engineering students from the Middle East.

      2. Times have changed. Last Spring the Bruin Mainstream Moderate Democrats unleashed a pogrom on the Jewish American students and the administrator and faculty held the coats of the antisemite Democrats.

  3. Scooter,

The non caring attitude starts from the top and works its way down to the bottom. As long as the checks clear everyone is happy. People need to stop donating until they get a president that is over 5’6″ and understands what SC is about.

It was so obvious she wasn’t prez material after failing at UNC. The BOT need to open their eyes.
