USC Lands Badly Needed 5-Star But Riley Still Lacking

Five-star defensive end Jahkeem Stewart committed to USC, giving the Trojans some sorely needed good news on Signing Day.

Now let me say this: I’ve been saying since Lincoln Riley got hired that he has not put together the high school recruiting classes that were expected. USC is not a place where Top 15 classes should be tolerated.

USC is hovering around 15th in the recruiting rankings at the moment. We were told this class was going to be different with Coach Henny and Co. leading the charge.

But it’s not.

USC should be around the Top 5 every year. But Riley has not proven himself to be a particularly energetic or adept recruiter since he arrived from Oklahoma.

Some fans have argued with me about this the past three years but who can be pleased with Top 15 classes?

I still don’t see that elite, top quality at the line of scrimmage; at linebacker or in the secondary that are needed to compete against the nation’s best teams.

Riley can try to plug the holes in the transfer portal but he’s been hit-and-miss there too the past couple seasons.

    1. I will pray to every God available that can make this happen- can you imagine, taking the UCF job to leave SC. It would tell you how overmatched LR is in big boy football.
