Does this sound like a pitch to convice USC receivers to avoid the transfer portal?
“There ain’t much convincing (to do). I mean, this school’s history of receivers and our history of throwing the ball at this school, there’s really not any better place to go play it,” Lincoln Riley said.
That statement has about as much energy as paint drying.
I wonder how many receivers of the past he can discuss. He now knows Mike Williams because he works with the staff.
Anyways, Riley does like to throw the ball, no doubt about it. But can you really say receivers get better under him?
Think back a year ago. Did Dorian Singer, Mario Williams or even Brenden Rice get better? Riley thinks his trump card is Jordan Addison, who he rented for a semester at USC.
But go compare Addison’s sophomore season at Pitt (100 catches for 1,593 yards and 18 TD’s) to his junior year at USC (59 catches, 875 yards, 8 TD’s).
Look at this past season: Did Zacariah Branch, Ja’Kobi Lane or Duce Robinson (to name three) meet preseason hype/expectations? Other than Makai Lemon, who did?
And Riley thinks it’s a given people should stay and play for him?
A team might have to go through 10 receivers before it finds a star

Yesterday’s print edition LA Times Ryan Kartje quoted Duce Robinson stating he wasn’t getting coached up – it’s over for Riley
