USC Morning Buzz: Standards Must Be Upheld

I wrote the other day about a USC player wanting to wear No. 55.

A reader wrote asking if I thought the player deserved it. My response: Not if they average a few tackles a game. You either come in as a five-star, can’t miss prospect or you have a great season at USC.

Remember that Chris Claiborne came to USC wearing No. 55 and in his first college game against Penn State at the Meadowlands was wowing fans with impact plays.

More recently, Lamar Dawson wore No. 55 from 2011-15 and that didn’t please some former players who wore the number.

Cameron Smith was going to get No. 55 until past greats intervened. There’s a high standard for wearing it and people (Lincoln Riley) need to be reminded.

  • ESPN analyst Joe Lunardi lists USC in his first four teams out of the NCAA Tournament.
  • The USC Bookstore currently features attire with Southern Cal and Southern California.

  2. Funny that the media guide has previously frowned upon “Southern Cal”, but we sell merchandise with it. I guess that has gone by the wayside.

      3. But the idiots who voted for dementia, incompetence & weakness didn’t want to admit that choice was a factor in many of the horrible things that went wrong the past 4 years. They acted as if they were all coincidences.

        One of them is even stupid enough to claim here that “millions regret voting for Trump”. Funny how the dumbxss can’t post a link to support that moronic statement. She can’t go a day without posting lies.

  5. “Southern Cal”, “Southern California”, and “SC” were all acceptable back in the day as I recall. Keith Jackson, perhaps the best college football broadcaster, and who held the Trojans in the highest of esteem would refer to them this way.

    Jackson’s last broadcast was 2005 Trojans vs. gutties, 66-19
