I knew this was coming. Behind the scenes at the McKay Center, there are already some assistant coaches grumbling about the perception new general manager Chad Bowden suddenly improved recruiting.
Assistant coaches are the ones who do a lot of the legwork in recruiting and it would make sense some would chafe at the thought someone who was hired just a few weeks ago is suddenly responsible for a commitment right now.
But this is the way recruiting gets covered these days. It’s not much different than when a new assistant comes aboard and suddenly the recruiting reporters rush to credit them with any commitment they can.
But maybe the best part is that when four-star QB Jonas Williams committed to USC last week, Bowden got some credit for it. So Lincoln Riley, the alleged QB guru, needed Bowden to tell him that a prep quarterback was worthy of recruiting?
Or does Bowden (the hire of Jen Cohen) need to bless decisions like this?
“There are a lot of egos in the building and (Riley) already has to deal with his authority being cut down,” a staff member said. “I don’t think he wants to share decisions or credit on quarterback recruiting.”

This is how you force people out when they have a bad contract and suck at their job, you take away their responsibilities, hire people without their consent and generally make their job hell.
SC is close to flipping a OL from Hawaii that was all Michigan, They are close to flipping a Mater Dei DL who is committed to Oregon, they are recruiting California again, this isn’t because Riley suddenly found that recruiting locally was a good idea, it’s because someone else is doing it for him.

I just don’t think Riley can do what Pete Carroll did when he recruited. Carroll was just awesome at this. Riley will never learn. I bet you it is bowden that is anaylsing the players and telling Riley to go after them

Job approval at 52 but closing the border, cutting waste are hugely popular. So is resetting merit as the prime hiring and contracting principle. Overall, people feel much better about the direction of the country and the economy. Democrats are cratering, down to 36% approval. Schumer’s ratings are a lot lower than Elon Musk. Voters are looking back on Biden presidency and the Dem Party years and scratching their heads on how they tolerated it.
