Sunday Buzz: Eric Musselman Rips USC Fans

USC laid an egg (again) against UCLA on Saturday night and Eric Musselman didn’t hold back after the game.

First, he had a go at the players.

“I felt like the rivalry, (our players) didn’t understand even in Game 1, and they certainly didn’t understand today what it means to the student body at USC, the boosters and the alumni,” he said. “We played like it was a normal game.”

Frankly, that’s Musselman’s job to explain the meaning of the rivalry, especially with a team almost solely comprised of first-year players who have no clue and could care less in this age of transfers/NIL/mercenaries.

Lincoln Riley doesn’t like the Crosstown Rivalry but Musselman is smarter and should realize his team needs a history lesson.

But this wasn’t best part. Check out what he said before leaving Pauley Pavilion.

  • I thought L.A. was the place to be? Musselman’s made some references during the season to the atmosphere (or lack of) at the Galen Center. He has worked hard to connect with the students.

But attendance has a problem at USC home basketball games for 100 years. He knows this is a football school. If you want fans at the Galen Center, you need to win. A lot. This is not Nevada. It is not Arkansas.

I like that Musselman speaks his mind. I bet Jen Cohen doesn’t. He should say something if the small crowds at the Galen Center bother him. Someone needs to shake things up. It’s better than Andy Enfield putting everyone to sleep.

But Musselman can’t have USC players trudging through both UCLA games. I was appalled when I attended the USC-UCLA game at the Galen Center. And last night was worse.

Alijah Arenas will help next season. But the one-and-done guys provide only temporary relief with the attendance.

It’s going to take multiple seasons of deep NCAA Tournament runs for USC to create the type of homecourt advantage Musselman wants.

[Watching Kathy repeat “TRIGGERED!” day after day reminds me of the end of The Navigator —where Howard Hughes keeps repeating “Wave of the future! Wave of the future!”]…..

I didn’t hear back from anybody….but it looks like they got the message.

    1. The USC Provost says that free speech on campus is a struggle. How do you balance hate speech which is constitutional with hate crime which is not? He adds that whenever someone uses speech which is bias or discriminatory the campus will combat them with the “values of diversity, equity, and inclusion that make us a global Trojan Family.” What a crock. USC is still actively engaging in reverse discrimination in admissions policies which is illegal. I hope this clown administration gets hit by a huge judgment and Trump cuts off Federal Funding.

  3. KAM: On Saturday, Mainstream Moderate Democrat UCLA Criminal Law Professor Peter Arenella posted a tweet saying that the U.S. Military must launch an insurrection against democratically elected President Trump.

DON: This UCLA law professor is a perfect example of the radical left’s disdain for democracy and free speech. They can’t accept that Trump won the election, so they resort to calling for a military coup. This kind of rhetoric is dangerous and un-American, it’s time to stand up against these authoritarian tendencies and defend our constitutional rights.

  4. Muscleman has an inner fire to win and win big, so SC basketball has a chance to build a foundation of good yearly-rotating players, which might bring out the 10,000 Galen crowds– Right before the March 2020 Pandemic hit L.A there was one last sporting event with SC-ucla where the Trojans pulled it out in the last second. A full house of Trojans made it a night not to forget

  7. It sounded as if the final few words from Muscleman were about “home advantage,” which with SC basketball is close to ‘none’ unless it is an SC-ucla game

  8. Muscleman took the job at SC knowing he had one player left on the team, and yet at the last monent he was able to coax enough average-to-good players to win nearly half his games.

And now he has a year to ‘work the system’ in alluring more local players to his ‘Mecca’

  9. KAM: Long ago, the Democrat Party had a choice:

Cleanse themselves of their Barack Obama infection, cleanse themselves of Obama’s racist and radical addiction to racial preferences that we now know as DEI, amputate any limbs that had become sodden with jacobin  gangrene and become what they had been: a patriotic American party of the American working class.

Or, they could continue following the discredited Clintons and Obamas down the sewer.

DON: The Democrats choose the sewer.

They didn’t do a damn thing except scream. And their childish foot stomping was on display for all the world to see last week at my Congressional address.

They wore costumes. They waved their little bingo signs. They took a stand against women, by refusing to support a ban against men in women’s sports. Yet they wore feminist pink to gaslight their voters.

They showed themselves to be what we knew about them:

That they are not serious. They’re only about performance.  They are the leftist clerisy living on money taken from Americans. And they’re quite dangerous.
