A New Way To Track Your USC Loyalty

This was pretty much ignored in Jen Cohen’s State of Troy newsletter, but she said USC is introducing “Victory Points,” which is “a new priority point system that rewards Trojan fans for all donations to USC Athletics.”

Cohen continued: “This priority point system allows us to better recognize and steward all supporters including both season and non-season ticket holders.”

Sounds harmless, right? Well, maybe not.

The Victory Points is a way to keep USC from actually dealing with people.

“Nice to meet you, now let me look up your Victory Points to see if we need to keep talking.”

This is also what happens when you have an athletic dept. mostly populated with people who have little or no connection to USC. They don’t know who to deal with or who has long-time USC ties.

Now they can just look up your Victory Points. You haven’t donated in a few years? Well, we’ll get back to you when we can. The days of Nick Pappas knowing all the alums and boosters are loooong gone.

  1. KAM: ‘Effective immediately’: USC implements staff hiring freeze, budget cuts

DON:The university announces immediate cost-cutting measures in response to financial strain, citing federal funding cuts and increased scrutiny on higher education institutions. $8 billion endowment= financial strain?

    1. The yearly interest on 8,000,000,000 at 5% is 400,000,000. Hardly a financial crisis at old USC. Just terminate the DEI program, all DEI administers, and all ethnic and women studies programs. That should free up at least 20 million and would get the dead wood out of the university. Also consider axing education degrees.

      1. KAM: Imagine for a second that an organization existed that carefully and deliberately planned and executed the firebombing and destruction of a certain brand of automobiles and its dealerships, and the support infrastructure for that brand, with the purpose of such attacks being to extort others into silence and submission. Back in the day we would have considered that a criminal conspiracy (in all likelihood under RICO laws), and we would have arrested and prosecuted the leaders of that rogue, terrorist organization.

DON: Guess what? You don’t have to imagine. That organization exists today and it’s called the “Democrat Party.”

  3. KAM: JuJu Watkins injury update: Rolled ankle in USC March Madness game, says she is ready tonight.

DON: The USC Trojans get another home game and play Miss. St tonight March 24 at 7 p.m. PT at Galen Center in Los Angeles, California. The winner will move on to the Sweet 16 against the Kansas State Wildcats in Spokane WA.

    1. JuJu was not used wisely at the end of that 100 to zero game [or some variant of that score]. Now USC proceeds without her. Which probably means we’re screwed.

  4. I’m no longer interested in putting out money for football season tickets to have the privilege of watching uninspired football play at the Coliseum. USC’s point system is not on my radar.

  6. I wonder what the guy who donates say 40,000 to the football program thinks of this point system. It appears to be a way to separate big doners from the rest of the pack. You may risk alienating the small and moderate doners by implementing this system and you need those guys.

So your at the diamond level of the point system, your invited to a semi-private dinner at Coach Riley’s house. Your a bronze level contributor, here’s a free gift card on us for a dinner at Taco Lita, Jen’s favorite.

    1. But unless you give an extra $100,000 you don’t get to actually talk to Sir Lincoln of Riley who is holed up in his den.

  7. No doubt they’ll follow in the footsteps of all the airline frequent flyer programs. You used to get access to the VIP lounges and upgrades were not all that hard to get. Very different today, and I’ll bet the same thing happens at USC.

DON: Now they are the Party of Brownshirts. Any straying from the party line is verboten!Brownshirts refer to members of the Sturmabteilung (SA), a paramilitary organization associated with the Nazi Party in Germany, known for their brown uniforms. They played a significant role in Adolf Hitler’s rise to power by using violence and intimidation against political opponents and minority groups.

  9. Scooter,

How does the point system work? If you donarte $5k, do you get a pepsi from Taco Bell? If you donate $100k, do you get a dinner with Jen Taco Lita cohen at Taco Lita? If you donate a million do you get to sit on the bench at a SC football game? This is nothing but rubbing your nose in the mess for not donating more. They got themselves into the mess, let them get themselves out of it.

  10. KAM:Remember when Donald Trump’s candidacy supposedly represented lawlessness and a threat to democracy? Good times, good times.

DON: In yet more evidence of a case of projection, Austin police discovered multiple “incendiary devices” planted at a local Tesla dealership. Police successfully removed the devices, which means that they may have not just saved a few electric vehicles — they may have preserved some key evidence for the FBI. “Incendiary devices” mean bombs in common parlance:
