USC Morning Buzz: Let’s Take A Close Look At A Questionable Position

Last week, I wrote about USC’s linebacker corps being a potential weak spot.

Well, here’s another one: The secondary.

Look at it right now with this potential lineup:

Cornerback – DJ Harvey

Cornerback- DeCarlos Nicholson

Safety – Kamari Ramsey

Safety – Bishop Fitzgerald

Nickelback – Christian Pierce or Prophet Brown

  • D.J. Harvey is considered the top corner after intercepting four passes at San Jose State. But playing in the Big Ten is a step up. A small question mark.

I thought DeCarlos Nicholson would start last season at USC but he started only three games and didn’t make the impression expected when he came from South Carolina. You can hope he plays better this season but there is certainly no guarantee. A legitimate question mark.

The nickelback position features Pierce, who has mostly been a special teams player and is actually a safety. Brown is a redshirt senior cornerback who hasn’t been a significant performer. This is a huge question mark.

Then at safety, you have Bishop Fitzgerald, a transfer from North Carolina State who intercepted three passes last season and averaged about four tackles per game. Like Harvey, he has experience but again, there’s nothing guaranteed. A legitimate question mark.

Kamari Ramsey will start at safety for the second straight season. No question there.

At the end of the day, here is my point. There are a couple nice pieces and the unit might gel well together. But can you say right now that this is a group that will get you to a College Football Playoff? Is this a group you would expect in Year 4 of Lincoln Riley?

  1. Well, this team is looking like somewhere between 7-5 to a top end of 10-2, the latter of which would include beating everyone they should, plus beating Michigan, and losing to the Quacks and the Domers.

    1. Neither Michigan or ND will be great, Oregon needs a QB, both ND & Oregon are on the road, but with Riley you never know.

I think the Illinois game on the road will be tough

  2. I don’t trust Nicholson but the rest of the guys seem fine. We have good safeties and I like Pierce and DJ Harvey. We also have 3 promising redshirt freshman in Williams, Conley, and Rubin. Most importantly, our defensive line is much improved which will help the secondary.

  3. KAM: The DOJ civil rights division has been DOGE’d without doing anything other than prioritizing actual law-breaking in their lawsuits. Since taking on this job two weeks ago, Dhillon has re-directed the civil rights division’s targets for prosecution. She told attorneys in a memo last week that, from now on, woke ideology is out and the rule of law is in. She put the civil rights division on footing to protect civil rights and told lawyers they would target antisemitism, anti-Christian discrimination, and dismantle the notoriously racist diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and to “govern yourself accordingly.”

DON: And then 100 or more of the 340 lawyer civil rights division took a buy out package that goes through September.

  4. Weekend raids in Florida and Colorado net 900+ illegals but with all the illegals Joey let, it would take deporting 219,000 per day over the next four years to get them all out

Thanks Joe, Kamala and especially Mayorkis

    1. KAM: More common sense: Trump signs order requiring truck drivers to speak English, pass literacy tests as ‘communication problems’ from foreign drivers mount. President Barack Hussein Obama’s administration in 2016 stopped an English requirement for drivers from being enforced, while the Senile Joe Biden-Harris administration in 2024 promoted an initiative that increased truck driving training for “refugees”.

DON: I believe that English is a non-negotiable safety requirement for professional drivers, as they should be able to read and understand traffic signs; communicate with traffic safety officers, border patrol, agricultural checkpoints, and cargo weight-limit station personnel; and provide and receive feedback and directions in English.

      1. Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon told Front Office Sports “there were no conversations” between the organization and Trump about the star running back. Hanlon also remarked about Trump’s comments on social media.

“With all due respect, stop yapping. Be the leader we all want you to be. And my 401K wants you to be. I’m trying to retire!!” he added on X, tagging the president’s account.

It’s just one lie after another with trump. At 100 days, his average approval rating is 42%, the lowest in 80 years.

      2. He/She likes to put all his lamest stuff under my name.

[I understand why Rachael Maddow says Trump is hurting the economy —she’s paid by the CCP. What’s He/She’s excuse]?

    2. Not Biden & Team’s fault at all. They said before the 2020 election that they would be opening the border. It’s on the people who were stupid enough to vote for it.

Joe also said that “No one who’s had 200K die on his watch should be President.”

Yet more than 800K died on his watch and he never even thought about stepping down, once it passed 200K. He and MSM merely stopped mentioning the number on a daily basis, the way they did before he was installed. That was also on the people who were stupid enough to vote for it.

We won’t even get into the conflicts that erupted on his watch, due to his weakness & incompetence.

      1. Biden told everyone to get the COVID-19 shot…800k died because of their own stupidity.

      2. Excuses? It’s too bad the 800k can’t tell their excuses

Why is gas more expensive today than on Joe’s last day in office?

Just more campaign lies from trump. Millions regret voting for him

      3. Cowardly Gabby says Trump’s approval rating is 42%, the lowest in 80 years. Name your sources for Trump’s approval rating as a historical low. Biden’s approval rating was at 29% at one time. Carter and Nixon also had historically bad approval ratings.

      4. troll: a person who intentionally antagonizes others online by posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content.

Posting 20x a day for over 1400 straight days that Biden or his voters have blood and their hands is a classic example of a “troll”
