Morning Buzz: USC “Chiseling” Away At Identity

Does a segment of USC fans realize that they trust the judgment of someone from Muleshoe, Texas, regarding the future of the USC-Notre Dame rivalry?

After investigating the state of the series Monday in a column for Sports Illustrated, Pat Forde came to this conclusion Tuesday about USC: “The school is chiseling away at its athletic identity, little by little.”

This is what happens when you have an athletic dept. full of people who know little-or-nothing about USC traditions. Lincoln Riley grew up 69 miles from football mecca, Lubbock, Texas. Jen Cohen thinks the Apple Cup is the epitome of college football rivalries. Cody Worsham, who put out a statement Monday, was the editor of “Tiger Rag,” an LSU fan magazine.

USC is chiseling its identity all right, with a sledgehammer. I wish Marv Goux were alive. These people would hide under their desks if he walked into their offices.

Look at USC’s schedule this year: How many games are really must-see to the fans? Four: (Michigan, Oregon, UCLA and Notre Dame).

Take away Notre Dame and you’re down to three games.

The worst part is there is a minority of USC fans, who are trying to spin on behalf of Riley and Co. It’s pathetic.

Now look at this schedule and tell me USC is better off without Notre Dame.

      Is it now ” Any FCS school, anywhere, anytime” ?

      If Cohen really wanted to put the screws to Riley, she’d sign up playing ND for the next 25 years. Riley would probably curl into a ball with pneumonia and probably quit.

    there will be a day of recollection if this continues. Fans will disappear and with the schuedling getting easier, SC’s reputation of any time and anywhere will be gone. They might as well play Cal St. Northridge from now on for all 12 games. Pathetic. If that happens, SC’s revenue will dry up.

    DON: Fake Jake Tapper responded that he called Lara Trump and admitted she was right, adding that he felt “tremendous humility” about his coverage. But Kelly made clear that Tapper would not get off easily. And when will Cowardly Gabby apologize for lying to the board the last 5 years?
