Sunday Buzz: Back When USC Built Itself Around Competition

Here is a video of one of Will Ferrell’s visits to USC during the Pete Carroll Era when he played a character he called “Captain Compete” and told the team “you always have to compete.”

The speech was based off Carroll’s mantra to “always compete.”

Would it ring true today in the Lincoln Riley Era? Does Riley always compete? Or does he shy away from competition.

When he got the USC job, some people criticized me for saying he left Oklahoma because he did not want to compete in the SEC. Does anyone not believe that years later?

  1. Will Ferrell: “When you go to school….. okay, you don’t have to compete.”

Carol Folt often quoted this line in private conversation…

    1. Biden also said that requiring a photo ID to vote was “Jim Crow on steroids.” The biggest threat to democracy is right wing extremism. The Afghanistan withdrawal was successful. The border is secure. The vaccines are safe and effective. Wear a mask and exercise social distancing. Stay inside – don’t go to work or school. Defund the police. My pronouns are . . .

Cowardly Gabby endorsed all of these statements and policies.

  2. Is the large player at the start of the video Alex Holmes?

Those were the days, when the second string would start on nearly any other team.

If you want some highlights of Trojan football, here they are:

      1. Watching this game reminded me how up Lincoln got the team for those Maryland and Minnesota games……

  3. Watching USC cream Oklahoma helped me figure out what’s wrong with Lincoln Riley: Lincoln is a smart gentleman…. who understands schemes as well as anybody….who completely lacks killer instinct…. and every opposing coach and team knows it……

    1. I don’t think he’s smart

His “schemes” don’t work inside the red zone.

No Air Raid coach has killer instinct because they won’t run the ball to run clock

Riley is a pansy who should be shown the door

      1. Last year they played LSU and ND. That’s competitive. We will play ND again this year and the next. As long as we keep ND on the schedule I am fine with it. Don’t care if we play them the first game of the year. I think ND will agree to it.

      2. I guess all my misplaced replies have pretty much ruined the architecture of this page….. my only consolation: at least I haven’t asked for proof Biden was demented …or asked anyone to fight me in a back alley of Barstow…..

  4. 2016 with SC’s Sam was quite a year, largely because the Trojans won their last game.– Those days are over because now with the Playoffs every top team will lose their final game except one

    1. What’s there to apologize for? Other than intentionally scuttling all border protection, claiming men should take female hormones to counter covid, destroying military morale, unnecessarily closing schools and churches cuz of the ‘pandemic’….and hiding millions of dollars in foreign bribes in 52 shell companies….

      1. Joe actually said, “Anyone who’s had 200K die on his watch should not be President”, only to have more than 800K die on his watch! LOL!!

Hilarious the way the morons who voted for dementia ignore that. The really stupid ones (like you know who) make lame excuses for it.

What could trump possibly be doing with 800 of his own shell companies?

      3. The drug addict admits shortly after daddy leaves office that “his ability to earn an income has dried up!!” LMAO!

Gee, what a coincidence. Yet the morons still deny that he was peddling access to & influence of his pop.

In “It’s a Wonderful Life”, 55 was considered old. (Uncle Billy expressed optimism about his ability to find a job and it was supposed to be funny.) But today, many people are still in their prime earning years at 55.
