A Few More Things To Add About The Game

USC had three illegal use of hands penalties and three pass interference penalties.

That’s on the coaches. Six penalties on defense.

  • Lincoln Riley started Micah Banuelos over Game 1 starter Alani Noa at right guard. That suggests last week’s performance on the offensive line had at least one problem.
  • Linebacker Eric Gentry had a team-high 10 solo tackles.
  • Clay Helton got booed when he was introduced before the game. Guess people haven’t forgotten.
  • USC is a 21-point favorite over Purdue per BetOnline.

    1. Agree 67. Marcelles Williams made a few good plays on the bubble screens while playing the receiver tight. The next time I watched him he was giving the receiver a 10 yard cushion. Why? The Oregon defensive backs who are freshman or redshirt freshman were playing the OSU receivers very aggressively and shut them down. We need to do the same thing.

  1. 21 points? I have no idea how good Purdue is, they also played two starter teams to begin with. So the forecast is something like USC 37, Purdue 16? Hate to say it, but I might bet on Purdue with the points if I was a betting guy.

OTOH, USC is ranked number 10 here:

    https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/46128861/2025-college-football-sp+-rankings-all-136-fbs-teams

The same website has Purdue as number 81.

I still would like to know why USC played such a soft zone against Georgia Southern…

    1. I think I know the answer to the soft zone — but you’re not gonna like it, 67: we were afraid of their receivers.

    2. Rumor has it that Riley has installed Rod Serling as the secondary coach. The system is called The Twilight Zone. Hopefully it doesn’t last as long as the TV series.

      1. Vegas & USC: From 38 point favorites, to 28 point favorites, to 21 point favorites —-how can anyone say this isn’t turning into a killer schedule?

    1. His disciplinary reason was because he sucked against an average JC team

But who recruited him ? That would be the sheety OL coach and Coach Pneumonia

  2. Women’s volleyball looked good in more ways than one today, sweeping Creighton 3-0. They are now 3-0 on the season.

We and our nieces enjoyed the match!

      1. We are at 22 and Creighton was 13. They didn’t beat Missouri State or Georgia Southern. 😛

But I hear ya! They have to get ready for Top 10 teams and beat them, too.

    1. KAM: Where is Tranny Bruin to defend her Affirmative Action hire AD Martin Jarmond and Affirmative Action hire head football coach Deshaun “SUV” Foster?

DON: UCLA may go winless this year. But DEI has been achieved so they won’t fire the incompetent coach.

      1. Wrong! The University is committed to firing Foster if he loses a bowl game…. oh, wait… I guess you’re right: Foster stays…. forever.

  3. DON: With an early big lead the SC defense figured ‘give them the short stuff but nothing long.’ That might account for the defensive backs playing off the Helton receivers so much. It probably won’t happen in a close game

KAM: And the betting-line of giving Purdue at home 21-points seems a bit much. But I haven’t been right yet betting on SC not covering

    1. I’d much prefer the Trojans never cover another game this season but win out [1 point victories would be just fine].. we’ll probably be big dogs in a couple games [Notre Dame and Oregon] and I’d like to see us do more than cover.

  4. KAM: As was true kast year at the 3-Ms, Minnie, Merryland and Mich, playing SC with its great historical football image is the ‘Super Bowl’ to Purdue

DON: What do footballers like to say about losing at home?- “Not in my house!”

  5. DON: So the Trojans are heavily favored ‘to do’ Purdue, and Michigan St’s quarterback looks shaky, so 4-0 here SC comes

KAM: But don’t forget 2023 when Troy was 6-0, but then Celeb at Notre Dame couldn’t hold down the Irish fior even a half, and SC ended up at an average 8-5

  6. DON: You don’t think SC made the jump to the ‘Big-10’ just to avoid playing Utah every year, do you?

KAM: SC talks about ND as being an impediment to making it to The Playoffs, but it was Utah that kept them out

  7. KAM: Fans are hung up on winning. But for me one of the most memorable years was when SC didn’t win the National Championship in 2022, but Houdini Celeb put on quite the show

DON: Topped off with the Tulane game in a losing cause, but a game that went down in history

    KAM: Especially at Tulane

  8. DON: Funny thing is if SC had won the Tulane game, it would not have down in history

KAM: It was the only game that got an A+ rating due to its bizarre ending as the Trojans slippd into their Keystone Kops act
