USC Football-Track Star Edesel Garrison Passes Away

Edesel Garrison, who led USC in receptions in 1971 and was a member of two NCAA championship relay teams, has passed away. He was 75.

Garrison was a memorable two-sport athlete, running the fastest time in the world in the 440-yard dash in 1971 while also being good enough in football to be a fifth-round draft choice of the Houston Oilers in 1973.

He was a seven-time All-American in track and field at USC and is No. 2-all time in school history in the 440 (45.4 seconds).

Garrison led Centennial High School to state and Southern Section titles in 1968. He won the 100-yard dash, the 440 and anchored the winning relay team in the Southern Section championship.

He then went to the state championships and won the 440 and mile relay. Garrison and Centennial also won the Southern Section title in 1967.

  1. One of the fastest players of his time, including a 9.5 100. He torched ND in the ’71 game, USC 28, domers 14, Parseghian said something like “You assume you are playing catch-up football when covering that guy, because you know you will always be trying to catch up to him.”

      1. KAM: He was the only offensive weapon that pathetic ’71 Bruin team had in the transition from Prothro to Pepper Rodgers, who installed the gimmick Wishbone Offense. Neither QB returned the next season.

DON: They had a decent defense but the offense was so bad the defense would get worn down and collapse as they did in their 38-0 blow out shaming at Ann Arbor.

      2. Yes, they did the wishbone, as did OK and several other programs. Bruins got much better I believe the next year when they had the “Blair Pair”, but still couldn’t beat the Trojans.

  2. KAM: There are numerous stories of teachers and people associated with schools who are getting canceled—meaning fired—for saying horrible things: essentially being happy, or saying it was justified, that Charlie Kirk was a s s a s s i n a t e d. What do you think about that? People are losing their jobs all over the place.

DON: The thing that is most shocking about that. The most shocking thing is that the people who spoke out that way believed they wouldn’t get fired. I think they were all surprised, which means they’ve been living entirely within a bubble in which they thought other people would agree with them.

      1. KAM: Tranny Bruin loves hateful Democrats who incite violence like Disnformation Spreader Jimmy Kimmel. It gives her something to cheer about as her university gets shamed and sanctioned: the U.S. government is seeking a $1.2 billion settlement from UCLA to resolve allegations of civil rights violations, including inadequate handling of antisemitism on campus. This fine was proposed after the Trump administration froze hundreds of millions of dollars in federal research grants for the university in July and August 2025.

        Overview of the settlement demand

In exchange for the grant funding and to avoid further legal action, the Justice Department has demanded that UCLA agree to a broad settlement that would change many campus policies. The demands in the settlement proposal include:

Monitoring: An outside monitor would be installed to oversee the university’s compliance with the new policies.

A financial penalty: The federal government has requested a $1.2 billion payment from the university.

Policy changes: Sweeping changes to admissions, hiring, and the handling of campus protests have been demanded.

Restrictions on protests: The proposal seeks to ban overnight demonstrations and restrict other protest activities on university property.

Limits on international students: The administration has demanded that UCLA bar international students who are deemed “anti-Western” from being admitted.

Gender identity policies: The settlement calls for the university to make public declarations regarding its policies on transgender people and to end gender-affirming care for minors at its medical facilities.

DON: What is Tranny Bruin going to do if they end Gender Identity Policies?

    1. Cowardly Gabby is the Meathead of Inside USC!

DON: Sore Loserman Democrat filmmaker Rob Reiner came out of hiding this week to empart his wisdom to us peasants  after disappearing for 11 months after Kamala lost the presidential election,  first on the Bill Maher podcast, where this tolerant free speech absolutist  suggested Democrats should put preconditions on speaking to Republicans, and then appeared on CNN where he was asked about a watch party he attended  June 2024 for Senile Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance. According to Kamala’s new book, Reiner inexplicably exploded at Vice President Kamala Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff  to tell him his opinion of Biden’s performance.

The reported confrontation between Reiner and Emhoff occurred at the Los Angeles home of James Costos last June. The Hill reported on the excerpt:

“The gathering had originally been planned as a fundraiser for the Biden Victory Fund, but then the debate was scheduled for the same night, so the hosts turned it into a fancy and hopefully fun debate watch party, with people sitting in three or four different rooms,” the Original Sin authors wrote.

It was a star-studded event that included Reiner, Emhoff, and Democratic Govs. Andy BeshearJB Pritzker, and Gretchen Whitmer, and actor Jane Fonda, but it became a “debate watch horror show” as Senile Joe Biden repeatedly and dramatically stumbled against President Donald Trump. From the book:

A few minutes into it, Reiner, in the main living room, stated plainly: “We are f u c k e d!” A few seats away, Fonda was equally distraught. Reiner, an outspoken Democrat and fundraiser, was terrified of another Trump presidency. And Democrats needed someone who could go head-to-head with Trump. Not someone who just stood there fumbling around, he felt. The world had been watching Biden for many months, even a year, as his capacity dwindled. Reiner became angry. Soon he was venting, standing, full of fury. He seemed to be looking at Emhoff. Daggers. “We’re going to lose our f u c k i n g democracy because of you!” Reiner yelled. Because of me? Emhoff thought.

  7. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971_USC_Trojans_football_team

Found this regarding the 1971 team, in which Garrison starred. The other WR was Swann, Charles Young was the TE, Sam Bam (I hope the “Inside USC” Sam Bam returns to this blog) was one RB, though Lou Harris was the leading rusher (though far from 1,000 yards), Pete Adams, Willy Hall, and Artimus Parker were also on the squad, so there was talent. They played 5 ranked teams during the season, going 2-3.

They also beat the Illini 28-0, nearly 54 years ago to the day. Hoping that is a good omen.

By MICHAEL R. SISAK Updated 6:23 PM PDT, December 14, 2024 Share NEW YORK (AP)

As part of the settlement made public Saturday, ABC News posted an editor’s note to its website expressing regret over Stephanopoulos’ statements during a March 10 segment on his “This Week” program.

The network will also pay $1 million in legal fees to the law firm of Trump’s attorney, Alejandro Brito.

The settlement agreement describes ABC’s presidential library payment as a “charitable contribution,” with the money earmarked for a non-profit organization that is being established in connection with the yet-to-be built library. “We are pleased that the parties have reached an agreement to dismiss the lawsuit on the terms in the court filing,” ABC News spokesperson Jeannie Kedas said
