Will USC Take Less Than Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State In Private Equity Deal?

As the Big Ten considers a $2.4 billion private equity deal, this interesting detail emerged courtesy of Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger.

USC will get paid less than Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State.

“Those at USC are against the uneven distribution structure of both (1) the upfront $2.4 billion and (2) the future conference revenues. The Trojans are behind Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State in the payouts of the uneven structure, according to those who have seen details of the plan.”

I’m not surprised Michigan and Ohio State want the most money. But Penn State? What gives them the right to more money than USC?

The answer, of course, is that they are “legacy school,” which is supposed to explain everything.

If I was USC, I would vote against this proposal unless the university got as much as every other school.

Remember the controversy when USC agreed to give up the larger share of TV revenue it received from the Pac-10 when the conference expanded to the Pac-12? That decision was poorly received for years afterward.

  1. Pac-12 is where a Cali team belongs, but the chancellors and presidents of those universities made one bad decision after another, leading to the implosion of what was a great conference.

    2. Cali? No self respecting native Californian refers to it as such. Akin to a San Franciscan calling it “Frisco”. It doesn’t happen.

      4. Rob Carillo is/was such a loser. He got kicked off of Topix many times. We had a thread going for years that started from a story about Rick Neuheisal and his claim that UCLA was the new football powerhouse in LA.
