Let’s Talk About Some Coach Openings

If I were running the head-coaching search at UCLA, I would take a long look at Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck.

He’s a hard-charging personality who is going to make sure his teams play physical, which are two things often lacking in Westwood and would energize the program and the fans.

All of this probably means he has no chance and someone like Jedd the Fisch will get the job, but the Crosstown Rivalry would definitely be more fun with Fleck.

What will be interesting is whether a new coach is told to keep Jerry Neuheisel. I doubt Fleck would let anyone tell him who to keep. Fisch, on the other hand, would follow orders.

  • A college coach who knows him suggested to keep an eye on Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham for the Auburn job. It doesn’t get widely reported that he was offensive coordinator at Auburn in 2019.
  • Does Lane Kiffin take LSU, Florida or stay at Mississippi? He’s got it made at Mississippi but it might be hard to resist what he might think could happen at someplace like LSU. Three different coaches have won national titles at LSU since 2003.

The question will be whether LSU offers him a mega-contract and whether he feels the governor’s recent involvement would be a turn off? A part of me thinks Kiffin really wants a job like Alabama, Michigan or Ohio State. We will see.

        I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.

        DON: That’s how we know Cowardly Gabby is The Coward of the County. If she really lived in Las Vegas like she pretended to, she would be a total coward for not showing up to confront Scott that day after wasting 25 years stalking him on this site…

  2. Jedd Fisch is a very good coach. Excellent resume. Successful at Arizona and now at Washington. If UCLA offered him he would likely turn it down. Washington is a better program.

    P.J. Fleck is also a very good coach. He would likely turn down the UCLA job. He will be offered a better job.

    I think Lane turns down the LSU job. Too bad. They would pay him 14 million a year and that program should compete for a National Championship most years. If he leaves Mississippi, he will likely go to Florida.

    I think Michigan likely fires their coach. Lots of job openings at blue blood programs.

    Does Dan Lanning leave Oregon?
