It’s A Weird Week For Crosstown Rivalry

The Crosstown Rivalry is a bit off this week because of Thanksgiving.

The traditional Thursday night rally will be tonight and won’t include the usual concert. How many players will bother to show up? Will Lincoln Riley make an appearance? He never has during his tenure at USC.

    1. the gutties lost by a combined 180-51 in their last 4 games to OSU, Indiana, Udub, and Nebraska.

This should be a cakewalk, but knowing Riley and D’Anton Lynn, it won’t be.

I hate to say it, but if past history proves correct, there will be some fumble, interception, or punt return that will make it close at halftime.

    1. Chip is good with developing quarterbacks. He is also willing to run the ball. I think he outcoached Riley every time they faced each other. And I suspect we can get him on the cheap. Same as Entz and Entz knows who to fire based on his previous experience at USC.

      1. Just saw that Chip was fired by the Raiders; he was innovative 15 years ago, but now he is 62, Raiders are dead last in rushing and something like 27th in total offense. I suspect his best coaching days are behind him.

I love the idea of Entz. But sadly, we are living in fantasy land hoping for Riley’s dismissal. It is at least a year away, maybe more.

      2. …hope everyone is remembering that those new guys we’re getting in 2026 will mostly be 18 year old freshman —- relying entirely on Riley and Lynn to get them ready for Ohio State and what will be a dynamite Washington team…..

  1. Nothng lies likes numbers. SC’s 2026 recruiting class is No 1 according to one pubication because the Trojans have the most (35) recruits. If each player is graded on potential ability SC is still Top-10 but not No. 1

    1. USC: 1 five star and 21 4 stars. This could be a game changer if it holds.

Might want to have ND’s class instead, with 5 five stars and 11 4 stars.

OSU has 1 five star and 16 4 stars.

USC NIL spending is about same as OSU, Bama, Tennessee. A bit lower than Georgia.

But what we have been saying about Nike rolling out the checks for the quacks is true. They are spending on average $240K, which is roughly $100K more than other teams.

The shocker in the NIL stats is Clemson, which is spending $55K, which is about $100K less than USC.

      1. -Continuing that thought ’67, Mississippi spends about $100,000 less than LSU for its NIL contracts. That should tell us where Kiffin is going

    1. I hear you John. I hope it works out for Kiff. He has had a great run at Ole Miss, won something like 60 games in the last 5 years. Given his past, it seems like he would be reluctant to leave a place where things have worked out for him so well, but I agree that he will be gone.

Interesting to think that after being tarmac’d here that he is now the hot coaching prospect in college football…

  2. That is a part of USC mythology. Kiff was not given notice of his being fired on the tarmac or airport runway, but rather inside the terminal. But myths are better than the reality

      1. Even if true, it matters not.

My MIL’s brother was with his woman for more than 30 years before he passed. They never made the trip to the courthouse. My wife & her siblings still call her their aunt. She’s as much their aunt as any other aunt is to her nieces & nephews.

I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.
