I will be on with Petros Papadakis and Don MacLean around 4:30 p.m. on 570-AM.
I mentioned that Lincoln Riley has never gone to the USC football rally held on campus the week of the UCLA game, including last night.
Last year, a prominent USC football player who you would all recognize told me he was around the program the week of the Crosstown Rivalry and shocked how Riley attached no extra significance to the game.
There was no talk about the rivalry, its history or importance.
This didn’t surprise to hear, of course.
Time to show him the door

The only way that happens this year is if ucla’s Nico goes wild and demolishes Troy

KAM: Losing to ND is acceptable?
DON: Apparently.

The ucla coach should give his bruins the Coach Lemming speech of “Matt Leinart ain’t here, Reggie Bush isn’t showing up,and we got the 6-million dollar man Nico, so go out there and beat SC and our season is a success’

KAM: It’s strange how UCLA had that brief respite in the middle of an otherwise wretched season of futility.
DON: Did injuries do them in?

As you like to say, it was a lack of coaching. As I like to say, it was a lack of talent

I would have preferred to hear Oregon’s Lemming give his last year’s halftime speech when Ohio St had them 31-8: ‘Hold them to 31, and just get 3 touchdowns and three 2-pointers and we got them’

The last coaching hire cycle, everyone was adamant they wanted someone from outside the program, so this is what you get.

KAM: We wanted someone from the outside that appreciated USC’s rich tradition., not a bloodless technocrat.
DON: Pete was from the outside and he revered USC.

While having to restart the program with a new coach, re recruit, build a new culture etc…. isn’t ideal, it has to be done. This farce of a head coach isn’t remotely living in reality. He ignores our tradition, ignores critical details that are part of a HC job, and seemingly is dismissive of anyone who questions his role in the programs mediocrity. I for one am tired of his “we are close”. Heard this crap every year, he has a “what if this happened” every year. Reality is, as many have said on this blog- a leader creates culture with accountability- he has zero accountability for himself or the program, so how do we expect players to be accountable for their shortcomings when the coach doesn’t recognize his? For example, one of the legacies he will leave us when he’s gone- He’s the only Head SC coach without a Special Teams Coach- and the results show it! Yet he clings to whatever pretzel logic he has in not filling that position.
Furthermore let’s find someone who galvanizes the entire program towards excellence, lives in the details- not in oblivion, is a leader of men who demands accountability, and will find players who will set themselves on fire to play for him. Maybe I’m dreaming, but that’s what this program needs. And I would be fine with a few 9-3/ 8-4 seasons knowing that the program needs to be cleansed of the stink he has placed on the team and is truly building towards something.

Riley undoubtedly descends from the coaching tree of the guy who said horses and fight songs don’t win ball games.

Michael must be at the Maui Invitational. We’re down to Seton Hall 42-38 at the half.

Play the winner of ASU-WSU tomorrow. That game is coming up.

While I doubt this will happen, but one can only hope Florida or LSU would be stupid enough to hire LR away from us. I guess we can always dream….

DON: He fit’s in better in the South.

No one really cares anymore, Maybe the students and alums and former players, But now with the transfer portal the USC-UCLA rivalry has lost its luster since most players come from Texas or Oklahoma the rivalry isn’t what it used to be.
