USC Morning Buzz: Signing Day A Success, Now Who Transfers?

I’m told the delay in tight end Mark Bowman signing with USC was over NIL wording.

He was the last and 35th recruit to sign with the Trojans. How many will stay at USC in the next 2-3 years? USC signed six wide receivers. How many will eventually transfer?

It’s going to be interesting to see how you blend 35 recruits (plus transfers) into the team. For decades, a college could sign only 25 players.

USC’s class won’t be judged by how many transfer out but by how many make an impact. And how many make an impact next season, which USC acts like will be a College Football Playoff season.

I’ve already gone on the radio to say I don’t think that will happen with the schedule.

Later today, I’ll list a handful of recruits I think can make an impact.

  • Was Dan Lanning taking a shot at USC yesterday?

“It was much more about quality over quantity. It wasn’t about signing as many guys as we could possibly sign, it was more about signing guys that we thought would really make an impact on this team.”

      1. KAM: Losing to Illinois, Notre Dame and Oregon and not winning the conference championship and not going to the playoffs in Riley Coyote’s 4th year as head coach with all his players now is not a 95% full glass.

DON: That’s failure to real USC fans.

      2. There are reasons for each of those 3 losses that go beyond Lincoln Riley [not saying Riley should be totally let off the hook] . The only real ‘failure’ was the first half against UCLA. No well coached team should ever allow anything like that first half against a hated rival [we shoulda been up 21-0 going into second half, not behind 7-10]…..

      1. California has similar provisions through the California Dream Act – financial aid, grants, even fee waivers for community college. Did I mention that the state has an 80 billion dollar debt.

      2. I wonder about Pepe. Looks great in drills. Can really move for a big guy. But some of the evaluation services say he doesn’t stand out against the competition in real games. That concerns me. I will always take game film over measurables.

  1. Speaking of transitioning, that was quite a change of pace SC’s ‘Bow-Down’ made in one year, from the No. 15 class in 2024 to the No. 1 class in 2025

    1. KAM: It’s a very simple process.

       1. Use State Department-funded NGOs to bring “refugees” to the US

      2. Use HHS-funded “non profit” organizations to get them welfare and citizenship

       3. Wow the nonprofits also do voter registration, how convenient!

       DON: *Democrats Harvest refugee ballots*

      1. Gabby Add These Items On To List:

        • Allow Foreign Companies to purchase Mainstream Media
        • Allow Spy Balloons to Inspect Military Installations
        • Prevent Monitoring of Foreign Aid
        • Refuse To Allow Justice Dept. Access To Ballots in 9 States

  2. –And further solidifying his unctuous reputation, the first act out of newly minted LSU Coach Kiffin was to try to poach SC’s great tight end prospect Mark Bowman

  3. Of course Wolfe was too lazy to do any homework. Always looking to take a cheap shot. Most of USC’s class was also being recruited by Oregon. They’re 3 star recruits fell into the same category as low risk-high reward depth pieces

  4. One advanage to being in a bowl game, albeit now the Top-12 Teams Playoffs, is the additional practice time it affords, especially in trying to integrate all these 35 new guys (although of course they won’t be eligible to play in the bowl game)

    1. Yeah … only real USC students get to play, John… if we try to play high school kids, I bet the Big Ten starts bitc*ing again about violating ‘fair play’ standards…

  5. I really don’t need to hear Lanning’s take on recruiting. The only reason Oregon brings in top classes is they consistently outbid others for the top players. We used to have a name for schools who buy players – cheaters. There was nothing honorable about such programs. Seriously, would you rather go to school in sunny Los Angeles or rainy Eugene. Have a USC degree or one from Oregon.

    1. It seems like “Oregon” is the wrong answer.

      P.S.

    1. The defensive line and defensive backs get a C and B respectively. I must have been watching a different team. Illinois and ND pushed them around. Huge holes. And a decent quarterback could have torched are backs. Oregon did. Did they grade the coaching?

      1. Stop it— our players got both hands lightly around the runner’s waist ….and, then, let their hands lightly slide down as the runner ran past them….

        #WhatMoreAreTheySupposedToDo?!!

[Serious Note: The Seattle Seahawks teach Special Teams to “Grab & Roll” —it always works. Even in tackle games on the playground if you roll over after you grab, you’ll always bring the runner down with you …no matter how big he is…especially if the “grab” part involves a headlock]…..
