USC Morning Buzz: Quarterbacks Shaking Up Transfer Portal

First, a little news. USC’s Board of Trustees are expected to vote next month on a new president.

They were supposed to vote this month but could not get a quorum.

  • Some people are already panicking about Husan Longstreet because Sam Leavitt committed to Oregon and Dylan Raiola committed to Oregon.

There are still teams that need quarterbacks. Like Miami, for instance. Also, would it terrible if Longstreet went to a non-blue blood and played every snap next season?

  • USC graduate Ludwig Göransson won the Golden Globe for best score for the movie “Sinners” last night.

  1. Check out Jonas Williams’ highlight videos …and his YouTube interviews —he’s a first rate player in all respects.

We’re fine at QB. We’ve got a great trio of running backs and some very good receivers.

It would be nice to have a defensive coordinator, though.

[btw, It’s troubling to read our board is so uncommitted to serving USC they can’t put together a quorum]…

      1. KAM: We heard the same company like about Husan and now he’s history. Will Jonas Williams be here in 2027?

DON: Or will Riley Coyote bring in a Transfer Portal QB to start?

    1. I think Sam Huard was given an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA. He is a former 5 star with a lot of talent. Threw a beautiful pass on the fake punt against Iowa. If something happens to Maiava, we have two good quarterbacks who can step in. Hate to see Husan go but his demands to start are totally unreasonable and the program will survive without him.

      1. I think Huard could be a competent back-up along with Jonas Williams. His uncle is the quarterback coach and he will have had two years in the Riley system. No question that he has a strong arm and is very athletic. Have you watched him play?

  2. I got a kick outta reading that Caleb said he’d follow Lincoln anywhere when Lincoln couldn’t convince him to join the team in the Holiday Bowl….

  3. Curt Cignetti has exposed college football. Ohio State has 55 players rated 4 star or 5 star. Alabama has the highest rated roster at 57 such players. Oregon roster registered 47 4 star or higher ranked players. Indiana? 8. Highly ranked players only hide bad coaching or bad prep. Nothing to do with technique and continuity. Fire Riley and Bring in Shanahan or Haines from Indiana. You have one of the best GM in Division 1 who will give you the right roster to compete.

  4. Odd choice for Husan. A major program is not going to promise him he will start. So he would face roughly the same situation if he transfers to a major program as if he stayed at USC. Or he could go to a place with no QB, start, hopefully do well, and transfer again? SMDH

    1. Agree 67. Why would a top program tell essentially a redshirt freshman that he is going to start. Husan has not proven himself yet. And look what happened to Arch Manning. He was essentially given the starting job over Ewers and then proceeded to screw it up. Raw talent does not make a quarterback. You need time in the system.

      1. KAM: If Husan is essentially a redshirt freshman that hasn’t proven himself yet… then what does that make Jonas in 2027?

DON: How can we be in good hands in 2027 with the same situation?
