Who Wants College Football Teams To Compete?

This sums up how I feel about USC fans who are happy that Notre Dame is off the schedule.

A segment of fans just want easy games to make the College Football Playoff. They want a lousy game over a marquee matchup. They prop up a coach who hates to compete. The Big Ten backs it up the non-competitive attitude with a ridiculous proposal for a 24-team playoff.

USC is actively looking for a cupcake to open the season now that Notre Dame is gone. It’s awful.

But this clip is worth watching.

  1. No real USC fan is happy about dropping the ND game.

    Front runner/bandwagon fans are. People who have never worked a hard day in their lives; They expect everything to be handed to them.

    Papadakis’ reason is obvious just listen to him sucking up to Brady Quinn but what’s yours Scott?

  3. We play one of the toughest schedules in college football. Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State and Indiana. It is conceivable that all 4 of those teams will be in the top 10 when we play them. So where should we wedge in the ND game? Should we play 4 or 5 top 10 teams within 7 or 8 weeks? That is nuts. All we asked ND to do was play us the first week of the season, a reasonable request, but they refused. This is on them, not Riley.

    1. ‘the princess’ is hoping the proposed re-set of number of playoff teams will render any CCG meaningless and that means an approaching demise of conferences (not likely) because if there is no demise of conferences then ‘the princess’ knows the impending implosion of the ACC is real. Miami and FL St are itching to leave and plus Clemson what’s left? ‘the princess’ needs USC far more than USC needs ‘the princess’ and that’s obvious, as noted, the weak schedule they face next year and henceforth as athletic directors and head coaches of the other major programs decline to schedule them.

      The reset is in 2028 at the earliest – a lot hinges on this year (2026) outcome

    2. KAM: Weird how John McKay wedged in the Notre Dame game and played 4 or 5 top ten teams within 7 or 8 weeks. Was McKay nuts? Top athletes flocked to USC to be the best and play the best. Wimps went to UCLA where they could duck the hard teams and build up a phony winning record before we b-slapped them every November.

      DON: It is on Riley Coyote , who was 1-3 against Notre Dame and simply can’t compete.

      1. True Gabby. When McKay coached they played a tough non conference schedule. Typically, ND and one other tough team. But, the Pac 8 was much easier back then. McKay usually breezed through it. Most of the other schools were outside the top 20 with the exception of UCLA. Oregon and Washington were not football powerhouses. McKay was not playing against 3 or 4 conference teams that were in the top 10.

KAM: Washington was a powerhouse under a young Jim Owens when McKay took over at USC and the Huskies went to the Rose Bowl in 1960, 1961 and 1964, winning the games in 1960 and 1961, while losing in 1964. In 1960, they defeated Wisconsin 44-8, and in 1961, they won against Minnesota 17-7 and in 1964 lost to Illinois 17-7. They were ranked #7 and #5 in the 1959 and 1960 UPI Coaches Poll .

        DON Check the 1964 schedule and tell me McKay wasn’t playing powerhouses every week including #2 Oklahoma, #2 Ohio State and #1 Notre Dame.

    1. KAM: The goal at USC has always been to win national titles.

      The goal at UCLA is to soften the schedule to play teams like Coastal Carolina and make the college playoffs and be eliminated in the first round.

  7. Scott, Scott, Scott….how many times do we need to tell you that ND needs a marque game much more than USC does. The ND marque games this year are overrated Miami, weak schedule BYU and over the hill five loss Clemson. While USC plays Ohio State at home, Indiana on the road, Penn State on the road and other tough Big Ten games. ND, the princess of college football, is quickly becoming irrelevant because of their narcissistic attitude of their way or the highway. Why aren’t you pushing for ND to join the Big Ten.
