USC Doesn’t Wield Power Of Michigan/Ohio State

Some Big Ten teams are more equal than others.

For example, Ohio State and Michigan will only play night games the final three weeks of the season, if they agree, according to the New York Post.

In a peculiar arrangement, both Ohio State and Michigan have stipulations in their TV deals with Fox, CBS and NBC that they cannot be assigned to play at night in the final three weeks of the regular season, sources told The Post.

The Buckeyes and Wolverines could choose to accommodate a request to play at night late in the season, but Michigan hasn’t agreed to that in the last two years.

While Ohio State made an exception last year for a home game against Michigan State that kicked off at night, former athletics director Gene Smith spoke out against the idea of late-season night games last June.

… A Michigan rep confirmed to The Post that the school will not be assigned late season night games.

USC doesn’t have the juice to make that demand. And if it did, does it have the backbone? It should have told the Big Ten that it did not want to play weekday home games when it joined the conference.

But, no, USC is just happy to be part of the Big Ten.

That’s the thing with Ohio State/Michigan: They are marquee programs that wield their power. Unlike USC.

  1. Wait a cotton-picken minute. USC has been in the Big10 all the way back to this past summer & don’t wield the same power as those who’ve been in it going back to the last century? Shocking.

    1. What bargaining power does USC have now? We are #16 in conference. Are we going to jump back to the Pac 2? Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan are mocking us, “You will play Friday nights and like it!”
