Jen Cohen released the “State of Troy” newsletter for November today. No mention of the “state” of the USC-Notre Dame football series.
She did say USC has to raise $68 million to reach its goal of $225 million for the athletics projects, including Dedeaux Field and the football building.
Oh wait, there was a reference to USC-Notre Dame. She said the women’s basketball game last weekend was “sold out.” The official attendance was 7,894, which is about 2,400 below capacity.
- The recruiting services are projecting USC will land five-star defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart of New Orleans. Apparently, NIL isn’t a problem on this commitment.
- Remember Joseph Manjack? The former USC wide receiver, now at Houston, has caught a pass in 26 straight games.
- USC (read Tim Tessalone) did a horrible job earlier this year recognizing Trojans in Hollywood. It had just a throwaway line on former All-American Jesse Hibbs.
So I’m going to republish what I previously wrote about him here.
Hibbs was one of the most profilic behind-the-scenes Trojans. He directed 44 episodes of Perry Mason; 20 episodes of Gunsmoke; 28 episodes of The F.B.I. and countless feature films.

Notably, he directed the 1953 football-themed film, All-American and To Hell and Back in 1955 starring Audie Murphy. The latter movie is his most well-acclaimed film.
He was an uncredited second-unit director for 1940’s Knute Rockne All American.

A shame Juju & team lost to their Top 10 opponent on Saturday and UCLA beat THEIR Top 10 opponent on Sunday.
Lady Trojans tip off against Seton Hall at 4 pm today on TruTV.

I’m glad. I hated the way they discounted the legacy & value of the Pacific 8/10/12 conference!

We would be the #2 -3 team in the Pac 12 right now along with Colorado and recruits would be pouring in. Instead we are a shameful #10 in the Big Ten with commits fleeing the sinking SS Lincoln Riley , with no hope in sight of challenging the elite of the conference. Happy Thanksgiving, Carol Folt, you turkey!

Wiley is at SC another year or 2, maybe 3, so he’s not going to influence the outcome of the SC-ND series

In 1964 I went to my first SC football game and it was with No. 1 Notre Dame. SC was only average that year but they upset ND and the Trojan crowd was in a frenzy, which is kind of similar to 2024

The reality of Big-10 football for SC is that once the novelty wears off of playing the Illinois and Nebraskas, those games won’t draw well in Los Angeles. Not that Oregon St and the Washington Sts did much better, but at least there was some history, a little rivalry between the West Coast teams
