Some people (fans/pundits) expect USC to get better because players naturally develop.
But can you assume that? Did Zacariah Branch develop this season? Did Ja’Kobi Lane? Did Duce Robinson? They were all projected to have big seasons and their impact was mixed at best.
We can hope certain players flourish but this is no guarantee in the Riley Era.
- Has D’Anton Lynn covered the tight end this season? Notre Dame had two different tight ends catch a touchdown pass against USC on Saturday. The tight ends caught seven passes for 75 yards and two TD’s.
And we will never be able to forget Penn State tight end Tyler Warren catching 17 passes for 224 yards.
- USC offensive linemen Amos Talalele and Gino Quinones have entered the transfer portal. They were both listed as second-string on the depth chart at the guard positions and considered possible starters next season.
- USC managed to botch the Senior Salute before the Notre Dame game, when the seniors who are playing their final game at the Coliseum.
- The former players who attended were roped off on the edges of the tunnel, so they couldn’t even high-five a player unless the player came over the ropes.
From a parent of a player: “It was so unorganized, none of the parents knew where to go before the game so they just stood on the field at about the numbers. Also the players were announced at the top of the tunnel. By the time they were at about the 10-yard line, two other players had been announced so the guy running on the field is not the name being announced. Bizarre how they screw that up.”
Why is anyone surprised that SC screwed up Senior Day ?
Why is anyone surprised that ND had not one but two TE’s that weren’t covered ?
Why is anyone surprised that Mr. Offensive Genius can’t see to develop his own WR’s ?

Amos Talelele is a big loss, he was considered a replacement for Jonah Monheim at center and could play OG too.

Scooter,
Next year, SC will lose to Misouri Southern or whatever the school is. SC will be just a mid-tier level team, around fresno st. status.

Right now we have no OL to protect the QB next year. What decent QB will want to come here and run for his life every play?

This whole scene at “Senior Day” is indicative to what the entire football operation has become at USC. And this comes from the simple fact that the adults in charge simply do not care about the football alumni, the players, their families, the student body, or the fans. This entire notion of having people in charge who do not care about the program began under the “leadership” of Max Nickeas, who turned the university into a money making operation, and now with Carol Folt, who over time began shunning the very fabric and traditions that made our university great. Until there is leadership installed that puts being a Trojan first and foremost, get ready for more of the same, not just with the football program, but the university as a whole.

So with the loss of Quinones we need 4 OL from the Portal.

Linemen Amos and Gino leave SC, so these are 2 more positions that have to be replaced. Other football schools have firm foundations whereas SC is still laying it one brick at a time

USC LG Emmanuel Pregnon does have one year of eligibility remaining, but his all-star game acceptance last week would seem to double as an announcement that he will not utilize his available sixth year. If that plan goes through, it would be a giant hit to the interior of the USC offensive line that is already set to lose center Jonah Monheim.

Sparrow,
I disagree. They are not laying it brick by brick. They are buying their players. In my opinion, laying brick by brick is recruiting and dveloping playes. SC is just filling in the holes with people that really don’t understand the meaning of SC football

Another problem for college teams striving for the Holy Grail is that every game will be close to a toss-up game, like this week with the betting line of Georgia vs Texas and Penn St vs Oregon being separated by a field goal
