USC Saturday Buzz: The Future Is Bright But What Went Wrong In Past?

Whenever I read comments from USC administrators or coaches, they always talk about the future.

But they rarely discuss the past. For example, USC has a 15-11 record in the two seasons Jen Cohen was athletic director.

I’m not blaming her for the record, obviously, but how about telling the fans why USC has been unsuccessful? Tell us what went wrong.

Yes, you’ve hired a general manager to solve all the problems but what is happening inside the program that caused USC to underachieve? I think you win more converts by speaking the truth instead of just saying everything is hunky dory under the new restructuring.

I hear it bothers Cohen to be tied to Riley but there are ways she could explain his shortcomings diplomatically without throwing him under the bus (I’ll be the one to handle that part).

Or do we just need to assume he can’t handle recruiting, NIL and roster management by the hiring of the $1 million general manager? Great indictment of the $10 million man.

Since I know from sources she is frustrated, it helps explain things. But it still would help to communicate it a little better.

By the way, has he tried to circumvent her on anything? That’s a question that will not get answered in public.

  • It must be an exhausting job to follow Eric Musselman and have to take pictures of every VIP he talks to on a given evening.

  1. Muscleman is a schmoozer and Wiley is a snoozer

ol’ Jen is “frustrated” with Wiley?– How can we determine that when she would never go public with such sentiments. Wiles is likeable enough in his own way, so ol’ Jen probably is frustrated with his mediocre record

  2. –Anayzing SC’s 2024 football record of 7-6, the team would have been full of confidence being 4-0 going into Minnesota but for that Michigan 63-yarder when it appeared SC had them.

It was the 3 in a row losses to Minnesota, Penn St and Maryland that killed the Trojans’ win-loss record. All winnable games with a bit more ‘luck

-So SC is ‘there,’ but needs excellent recruits to get to the next level

      1. A lot of it is the lack of wins. If we had won an NC this past year, the board would be full of people claiming to be lifelong, diehard Trojans and fans thereof. Nowhere is it more true than in LA that everyone loves winner.
