USC Morning Buzz: Covering All Your Bases As Usual

It was just about three weeks ago that Fox analyst Joel Klatt said if USC loses to Illinois this season, “it puts USC on a path towards like are they going to be 7-5 again.”

And this week, he ranks USC No. 7 among teams among teams who have a chance to make their first College Football Playoff.

It’s a great gift, really, to cover your bases this way with USC. Whatever the Trojans do, he can say he predicted it.

By the way, here is a quote I came across from Klatt from Sept. 23, 2015.

“Pat (Haden) is the one on the block – not Steve Sarkisian.”

Three weeks later, Sarkisian was fired.

  2. Well, Klatt didn’t know about what Sark would do at the upcomingh “Salute to Troy”… And neither did Haden. But he should have.

    1. Right 67. Sarkisian said something about giving the other team a goo/azz/kicking. Then he wanted the other team to meet up in Barstow. And he kept mixing up student body left with student body right. It was embarrassing.

  3. Sybil isn’t worried about her Medicaid. No way. She wakes up mad that OTHER people lost THEIR Medicaid. It’s the Other people she’s worried about. She just can’t stop fretting over THEIR loss.

    1. Your right MG. Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is characterized by attention seeking. Cowardly Gabby loves the back and forth because it puts her at the center of attention.

Wish I could experience the same pleasure.

PS…I am still walking like John Wayne from the last butt-dart tournament.

      1. Sadly the networks and the other 4 bowls seized control of college football 30 years ago when airhead PAC 10 Commissioner Tom Hansen gave away The Granddaddy of Them All and soon the pathetic Fiesta Bowl became a co-equal to the Rose Bowl. STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Can’t be the last one MG. The game is bigger than any one person whether it be Riley, Cohen, or the university President. It is ultimately up to how pissed off the big donor alumni get and what they decide to do about it.

  5. I like Joel Klatt as a football analyst. Very well informed on the strengths and weaknesses of the teams and the schedules they face. He generally likes USC football and Lincoln Riley but has also said that Riley may not withstand another 7 win or below season. The fan base is growing impatient. He is obviously right on that point.

    1. Riley has all the ingredients for success this year —all he needs to do is grow some killer instinct and not overthink things….

      1. Ha! I guess we can either “overthink things” ….or…do it our way….

      2. MG, we aren’t returning any starters at running back. How do we replace heir apparent Quinten Joyner who bailed on us? He was our primary back in the ND game after Marks went down. Do you think Bryan Jackson can handle the load or will a transfer like Waymond Jordan take the starting spot? In the 2024 season at the University of Washington, Waymond Jordan had limited playing time. He participated in only two games, which allowed him to utilize a redshirt season. In those appearances, he recorded a total of five rushing yards on three carries, with his best performance being a four-yard rush against Penn State. That doesn’t inspire optimism. And “Eli’s Coming” Sanders gained a measly 477 years and caught 5 passes at Iowa State last season.

  6. What Scott failed to mention about Klatt’s 2015 prediction that Pat Haden’s tenure was “on the block,” is that less than 9-months later 1974 National Championship hero Pat was gone in disgrace

      1. P.S.

As long as there are record books saying Notre Dame 24, USC 55 …and USC 18, Ohio State 17 ….Pat will never ‘”be [completely] gone in disgrace”…

  7. That settles it– All the pundits say SC football will end up the regular season at 6-6, 10-2, or somewhere in between.

Recall that after the big 2022 splash with SC’s resurgence under the guidance of What’s-his-Name, Trojan fans were thinking big about the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Also remember that the Trojans lost a lot of men after 2024, and their recruiting success only picked up with its 2026 class

    1. We are weak at RB and OL and the returning QB threw two pick sixes with the ND game on the line. Thanks goodness for the creampuff schedule. imagine what this team would do with the 2016 schedule- win one game?

    2. Beating Illinois will solve a lot of problems and answer a lot of questions [Illinois, btw, has a tough game against Indiana [at Indiana] before we get them [we get to play a crappy Michigan State team at home before the Illinois game]…..

  8. Coch McKay (why is there an “a” in coach?) summed it up for me as far as rivalries go: “There is nothing better than beating Notre Dame and nothing worse than losing to ucla”

  9. Another argument is that SC-Notre Dame is truly an intersectional rivalry, unlike the others, and SC-ucla is the only intra-city contest
