USC Notes: Clay Helton Makes Extended Stay In Southern California

Clay Helton is keeping Georgia Southern in California for nine days to start the season because his team opens with games at Fresno State and USC.

Instead of flying back to Georgia, Helton will keep the team in Southern California the entire week leading up to the USC game. If I had to guess, it wouldn’t surprise me if he practices at El Camino College in Torrance. Helton used to like to hold scrimmages there.

He can also hold a barbecue in Palos Verdes.

  • Former USC QB Max Browne is not be part of the CW college football broadcast teams this season. He was an analyst last season. Perhaps USC will use him on the Saturday pre-game show now.

  1. I was wondering how ‘Ton-o-Hel’ was going to handlle playing Fresno St one weekend and SC the following week. That would have been hard to travel back and forth from Georgia 2-times. So the kids miss a week and a half of classes

      1. With NIL, it is now “Athlete/Employee”. Their class selection, tutor sessions, etc. are now entirely managed by athletics admin. staff, at least for the revenue sports.

  2. Georgia Southern has a transfer big WR from Auburn named Camden Smith who has run a sub 4.5 40 and has two RBs who have clocked around 4.4.

The good news is that Clay’s gang gave up 430 yards of total offense last year and I think Ole Miss had close to 600 yards against them. So the USC game should be something like 59 to 13, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more like 37-20. It depends on which of the HCs is the bigger underachiever that day.

    1. It is actually a good thing if Georgia Southern gives us a test. We need to identify who can play against talented players on the other side when the stadium is full and the other side thinks they can win. But that doesn’t mean we don’t beat them convincingly. We will know whether or not Georgia Southern is a joke depending on how they play against Fresno State. FSU always plays tough.

  3. The SC beat writer pegs the Trojans winning its first 3-games, but then losing 3 in a row to Illinois, Michigan and Notre Dame

    1. Who cares what a beat writer thinks. We will know based on the odds set in Vegas. And for what it is worth I think Illinois, Michigan and Notre Dame are all beatable.

    1. KAM: I Deceived Donors As I Strike A Secret Deal with DNC to Pay Off Debt from Failed 2024 White House Run. Recall that I stole Senile Joe Biden’s delegates and took his donor money after he dropped out of the presidential race in July 2024.

After blowing through over $1 billion in virtually 3 months, I ended my presidential run in more than $20 million in debt.

According to The New York Times, I struck a secret deal with the DNC to pay off my 2024 bills, but the donors were left in the dark.

The private agreement was this: The party would pick up the tab for any outstanding 2024 bills, allowing me to claim I did not end the race in debt. In turn, I would raise the money to cover all of those leftover costs, leaving the party whole financially as it sought to navigate the second Trump era.

DON: Left in the dark were the small donors who received nearly 100 email solicitations sent from the Harris operation this year alone on behalf of the DNC. The emails did not disclose that funds raised from those emails were essentially earmarked from leftover bills.

    1. If that happens we are in serious, serious trouble. Do we have a buyout his contract fund? I don’t think that will happen. We will be a top 10 team this year.

  4. KAM: I like to invent images, so here’s Helton’s thinking about being away from school for 2-weeks: ‘My boys are going to miss a lot of school. And yet they’re never here long enough to have a ‘major, but they all have ‘miners

DON: Ol’ Ton-o-Hel had that one good 2016 year with Darnold at quarterback. People started thinking, ‘Maybe this guy is more than a cookies and milk coach, but that thinking didn’t last long

  9. Scooter, what is new with the SC agreement with nd? One rumor is, SC wants part of nd’s gate when sc goes back to nd and nd is saying no. If that is the case, then let SC keep the entire gate at the Colisuem.
