I wrote about the sorry state of the Pac-12 Conference in this article for the Sporting News. Money quote: “If you want to play big-boy football, we can’t tell a recruit this is the place to be,” a Pac-12 coach said. “We’ve lost our swagger from a national perspective. Watch Clemson, Alabama or Ohio State. It’s a different level than what we are doing.” Full … Continue reading Morning Buzz: The Decline Of Pac-12
USC moved Dominic Davis from cornerback to wide receiver today. This is just the latest move for Davis, who originally played tailback. Clancy Pendergast said today the defense can go two deep (22 players). He also said that last season and we all know how well that worked out. Continue reading A Position Change For USC
USC’s first home game means a lot of recruits will be invited to the Fresno State. But we hear one prominent local recruit was dismayed because he invited by a low-level staffer and not a coach, which is custom for the bigger recruits. If you go to the USC bookstore, you might have trouble getting a No. 18 jersey (JT Daniels). The bookstore ordered them … Continue reading USC Notes: Back To Recruiting
I hear from a USC assistant that Clay Helton tried to convince Jack Sears to remain with the team after he said he would transfer. Of course he did. What happens if JT Daniels gets hurt and then Kedon Slovis/Matt Fink struggle? Helton needs a QB. Remember last year, USC lost its two top quarterbacks for a game. And Sears nearly rescued USC vs. Arizona … Continue reading University Of Spin Controllers

And why would he? He threw one interception in training camp and was made fourth string. He was even placed below Matt Fink, who left and then came back. The full statement is … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: What Was Missing Yesterday?
There is a big weight off Clay Helton and JT Daniels’ shoulders tonight now that Jack Sears is leaving. Helton won’t face any more pressure to play Sears and Daniels won’t have to deal with the specter of Sears being on the sideline and coming into a game and looking better than him (like last year). It also helps Daniels because a large segment of … Continue reading Jack Sears’ Transfer Reaction
