Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who played baseball at USC, stopped by the McKay Center this morning to speak to the team. Boone is a huge USC football fan and has stopped by practices in the past. Maybe he can be hired to replace Clay Helton. Fox analyst Matt Leinart predicted USC would win 8 games this season. That’s one more than the over/under for most … Continue reading USC Gets Special Guest And Matt Leinart Makes Prediction

Bill Nelsen, one of the most underappreciated USC quarterbacks, died in April. He was 78. I don’t recall any announcements but he deserves recognition. Nelsen led the Trojans in total offense in 1960-61 and helped lead an upset of UCLA in in John McKay’s first season. He also played in 1962 when USC won a national title. Mater Dei QB Bryce Young started off his season completing 19 of 26 passing for 191 yards and three TDs. Defensive back Clark Phillips of La Habra, who committed to Ohio State last month but wasn’t even offered by USC until March, had two interceptions against Upland last night. Former USC punter Reid Budrovich has been awarded … Continue reading USC Notes: Working Weekend

What a coincidence that the first week USC practices are closed, Clay Helton says, “It’s been about as physical a three practices as I’ve seen.” Of course. Practices will always be physical now that no one can see them. At least USC did not practice in tennis shoes. That might happen today, though, because there is a mock game tomorrow, which is actually not physical … Continue reading When Practices Closes, It Gets “Physical”
