I hear Clay Helton is not happy anyone knows who calls the plays.
I wrote often during the season that Tee Martin, Helton and Tyson Helton shared the duties. During the Cotton Bowl, Tee Martin and new quarterbacks coach Bryan Ellis called plays.
No USC coach would admit during the season how it worked. The official line was Martin called the plays even though others did it too. Maybe Martin took the blame because he knew he would get a two-year contract extension (USC did not admit the length of his recent extension either).
Why is who calls plays such a secret? Lane Kiffin made no secret he called plays with his call sheet in his hand. Steve Sarkisian admitted he called plays and then said he would no longer call plays during his second season at USC.
Is Helton embarrassed to reveal how it works with more than one coach calling plays? Who knows? But he obviously prefers the public not know how it works. It just seems to be Helton’s nature to not reveal much about how things work (and sometimes don’t work) inside the program.
Gomer may not know who calls the plays

This is also shows just how stupid Gomer really is, just admit who the play caller is and be done with the speculation.

I read a quote from Helton, “Martin will be calling plays.” Hopefully that clears it all up for you.
