You might have heard that Cal State Northridge fired basketball coach Reggie Theus and athletic director Brandon Martin today. Martin is a former USC basketball player, so there is a USC connection, as usual.

It’s not every day a coach and athletic director get fired on the same day. But I spoke to a Big West coach today with close ties to CSUN, and he relayed the following: Apparently, Martin fired Theus and the coach did not take it well and started an argument. There was a brief chest bump but no other physical contact.

Theus reportedly filed a report with the university about the incident and that was enough to also cause CSUN to sever ties with Martin. Like I said, the crazy item of the day.

A source at CSUN tells me the school was set to hire former North Carolina State and Alabama coach Mark Gottfried. But does Gottfried still want the job?
