Despite some heavy rain at times, Sam Darnold’s Pro Day was an unqualified success. For comparison, I felt it was better than Matt Leinart or Matt Barkley’s Pro Day at USC.
Leinart was affected by the large crowd at Howard Jones Field that lined up outside the gates to watch his workout. Barkley’s workout was fine but not as impressive as Darnold.
Darnold threw around 60 passes. Less than five were off the mark despite a lot of throws on the run and the wet weather. If teams had questions about Darnold’s arm or accuracy, he answered those questions today.
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was in attendance and sat with Darnold’s parents during some of the Pro Day workouts. Darnold’s throws on the run were the USC QB at his best and he did not disappoint doing what everyone who watch his games saw each week.
You know who didn’t have a great day? Tailback Ronald Jones, who dropped two passes. I’d blame his hamstring injury, which means he still has something to show NFL teams concerned that he caught only 32 passes in three seasons.
Here is some Darnold reaction:
“I knew I was gonna come out here and do well. Having played games in rain before I knew it wasn’t going to be a problem.
I’m glad for Sam, I hope teams got the idea that Sam isn’t a fair weather quarterback I expect great things from him.

This place is still a ghost town, pathetic. Where did all of the wolfman’s followers go?

Darnold will be an excellent employee of a team. he has the right temperament, good skills, and wants to learn.
