USC has a new policy that seems to prohibit minors from coming to campus except “for authorized events only, such as “bring your child to work” events or family-friendly gatherings to which minors are explicitly welcome.”
This seems aimed at the children who live in the community and might enjoy the campus environment.
For example, it is not unusual to see kids skateboarding on campus. Every night, there are also track club teams that bring young kids (often from surrounding neighborhoods) to work out at Cromwell Field. That doesn’t seem to be allowed under the new policy.
Why would you want kids to be exposed to a college atmosphere? It might give them a great goal in life.
Of course, you can bet an exception will be made for any minor who plays football and is getting recruited by Clay Helton that just happens to show up on campus. That will be entirely tolerated. And the university will continue to give lip service to being a good neighbor.
You can read the whole policy here.
Here is the short version: Unless you pay us tuition or work for us, don’t come on campus.
I was mugged by 5 sixteen year olds last weekend – I can see how having randoms loitering on campus after hours could be a problematic thing….

Stupid policy. Sc is afraid of liability. They sure know about that from the two dr.’s that did what they wanted for many years. That liability bill is gonna be hundreds of millions

It’s what it is – bingo. The sooner someone sacks -not only Nikias but the other clowns that signed off on both the ‘financial payouts’ as well as the decision to ‘not report the two of these physicians to the state medical board’ the better.
Staten looks the fool who rubber stamped the payouts and Quick reminds one of a hidden mandarin hiding in the shadows whose been waiting for a power vacuum to slip into.

Liability has been an issue for years. All of neighborhood schools have been locked up tighter than a drum for years. Even kids sports teams using campus facilities need to have insurance to gain permission to play.
So a few weeks ago we visited the museum at exposition park and we took the train. When we got off we had to push past a gaggle of skateboarders. Nobody said boo to these kids as they were riding their boards like a swarm of flies. We weren’t the only ones annoyed by the kids. On the way back we headed towards the bookstore only to find the campus ringed by fencing. The clerk said mobs of kids would bum rush the store and scatter on their skateboards. Maybe this is what has become of the campus.
