Jordan Wilmore Commits To USC

Tailback Jordan Wilmore of Lawndale High School committed to USC this afternoon.

Wilmore is 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds. He had 18 scholarship offers but not many marquee schools. Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State, Colorado, Utah and Washington State were the Pac-12 schools that offered him. UCLA did not offer him.

    3. Why would UCLA recruit a kid that can’t clear the academic bar at a real university?
      The academic bar at SoCal is more like a parking lot stripe.

  2. The scholarship numbers don’t mean much. If you know anything about the student-athlete, Scottie, why not regale us with that information? Unless you don’t know the first thing about him- in which case maybe you leave the recruiting news to the pros….

    2. Not just recruits but USC also lost two OL this past spring.

      Roy Hemsley transferred to ASU as a graduate transfer. Didn’t see many snaps but I think with USC’s weakness on the line he could have seen more playing time this year.

      And, Cole Smith, medically retired from football because of his knees. Kid was a center.

      Not sure if they would have blossomed into All- Americans had they stayed but could have definitely used the bodies to rotate in and maybe even give a push to some other guys for playing time.

      1. If either Hemsley or Smith ever saw the field for USC, it would mean that USC is in bad, bad shape. Smith was buried behind Lobendahn, Neilon, and Dedich. Smith was a HUGE reach when he was signed. The DN wrote this:

        “A three-star prospect, he was seen as a developmental project with pedigree. His father was former Rams Pro Bowl center, Doug Smith. Though the No. 10-ranked center was undersized, the thought was that he could bulk up and then slot into the middle for the Trojans.”

        Helmsley was not as much a reach as Brown, but he was a developmental prospect and was firmly behind Brown, Vorhees, Vera-Tucker, Daniels, Martin and Lobendahn, who could always side over to guard, if necessary. When Daniel moved from the OL to the DL, that sealed it for Helmsley. Plus ASU has depth issues on the OL, and Helmsley, if he doesn’t start, will be in the rotation.

  5. Another 3 star kid who will never see the field at USC, just a place holder until Gomer, or hopefully a real coach, can recruit a RB who isn’t a midget recruited by FCS schools
