Kliff Kingsbury Will Face A Real Dilemma At USC

Kliff Kingsbury has so much power right now he has to be the coach to decide who starts on offense.

That means he has a big decision to make at quarterback.

What could complicate the decision is how vocal many of USC’s wide receivers have been the past six weeks about wanting Jack Sears to be the starter. Several players have told me since the season ended they prefer Sears.

If they are equally vocal when they talk to Kingsbury, he will need to weigh that against Clay Helton’s desire to play JT Daniels. Or maybe Helton secretly wants Kingsbury to be the one to decide since he is too weak to start someone other than Daniels.

Several seniors went to Helton after the Arizona State game and asked for Sears to start. Helton declined.

In any case, Kingsbury will find out, if he has not already, whom the players want at quarterback.

  1. Dilemma? Pfft! He’s a good coach – he’ll be able to work through this decision along with 50 others. Your ability to appreciate what a coach does in a top football program isn’t incredibly developed. Sound more like a top journalist, less like a top blogger.

    3. I think the decisions will be made more easily after the first 5 games- Fresno St., Stanford, at Udub, BYU, ND in South Bend. If either QB doesn’t raise their level of play and the team bombs, a QB (and maybe HC) change could be in order.

  2. I’m going to assume that Kliff Kingsbury’s reputation means a lot to him, so he’s going to play the best quarterback on the roster. Because that’s the authority real offensive coordinator have, and I know Kingsbury would not have agreed to take the job under any other circumstances.

  5. Wait a minute SUCCXsters, since when does the OC overrule the HC? That’s a situation that could only take place in the SUCCX are Clown’s dimension.

    How can Helton be held accountable for the offense if he has zero control over it? Helton might like that situation. For instance, after another brutal, humiliating bozo loss, all Helton has to do is point a finger at K.K. the bozo OC.

    One wonders if K.K’s chick is as handsome as Andyain’twinnings’ Old Lady.

  7. Dream on. Sears 3rd string quarterback. With Kliff coaching Daniels up and better playcalling, physical maturity and with a Spring and Fall camp under his belt JT will again win the competition. Daniels is a more astute student than Jack or Matt. Opposing teams would of schemed for Jack and he would of ended up busted up like Matt. JT beat WS and had ND against the ropes but oline brainfarted.
