USC announced the death of a memorable Trojan: Ambrose Schindler. He was 101.
Schindler died Dec. 30, 2018 but it was just recently reported.
The San Diego High School graduate led USC in rushing, scoring and total offense and was named all-conference in 1937. Schindler also led the Trojans in 1939, and was named MVP of the 1940 Rose Bowl. The 1939 team was eventually recognized by USC as national champions.
Perhaps Schindler’s greatest role was to serve as the stunt double for actor Jack Haley (the Tin Man) in the Wizard of Oz. Schindler, who was born in 1917, is still alive today.

Ambrose was my neighbor when I was growing up in Redondo beach. He was a great man and taught me many things. He showed me how to fix my bike and would always lend me his longboard when we would road trip south. Scott I thank you for your post. Rest in peace my dear friend
Ps I blame Helton. Ambrose would have stuck around if USC was in a bowl game.
Fight On. Via La Circle will miss you

The 1939 team was the last of Howard Jones 4 NC’s and the last time USC would win at So. Bend against ‘the princess’ until 1967.
