Mater Dei defeated St. John Bosco, 24-12, in the Battle of the Beach Tournament at Edison High School.

And Mater Dei won without QB Bryce Young, who is committed to USC and was at the Elite 11 competition in Frisco, Texas.

It was Mater Dei’s fourth straight Battle of the Beach title. And leads to speculation that it doesn’t matter whether JT Daniels, Young or Toby Schmidt (today) is the QB, it’s the system and talent that wins at Mater Dei.

Bryce who? Mater Dei makes it into the Edison finals behind QB Toby Schmidt, last year’s freshman QB. It shows you about coaching and lots of good skill position players. But I’m taking St. John Bosco in the final.
