Clay Helton On The Stronger Trojans

Look at the big difference the USC strength program is making this year based on Clay Helton’s comments at Pac-12 media day:

Q. Seeing your guys during the off-season, it looks like the strength and conditioning program is paying off as much as it has since I’ve seen in the last few years. The guys have talked about how you’ve given them everything that they need nutrition-wise. Can you help us with some of the stuff you’ve given them this off-season?

CLAY HELTON: Yeah, this is a team that really wants to work. They have a tremendous work ethic. I credit Ivan Lewis. I think every year I’m going to lose a guy to the NFL, and there were several teams coming to try to get him this year. But to have the consistency and stability to have an Ivan Lewis and his staff I thought was imperative.

OH WAIT. That was from last year’s media day where a “reporter” claims to see a big difference and Helton agrees.

You can switch Ivan Lewis for Aaron Ausmus and get the same answer this year. Maybe things are different this year. But some reporters and Helton claim that every year.

  1. Under Kiffin, Sarkisian and Helton USC has been incapable of playing physical football.

    1. A game for the ages. Thanks for posting. So many great performances, including Lendale. He was a great combination of power and speed.

      1. It certainly was ’cause the NCAA vacated the bozo Orange Bowl victory for using an ineligible player — Reggie Bush!

Little Petey shoots himself & program the in the foot. If Little Petey had sat Bush that night, for possible NCAA problems, the score 55 – 19 wouldn’t change, and the bozo’s would still own that BCS Championship Crown.

Instead of firing Little Petey for gross FB negligence, he’s been inducted into Felony U’s Hubris Hall of Fame.

Think of it Rah-Rah’s, with 10 minutes to go and up 12 points vs Tixas University, for the National Championship, Little Petey snatches defeat from the jaws of a lock victory.

      2. owns, when it comes to playing Oklahoma, how well has ucla performed?

Last year they lost by 28. This year they are 25 point underdogs. Should be a really entertaining game.

      3. that a boy Owns! Jump right in….when was the last time ucla was in a meaningful football game for anything? National Championships? LMAO. Conference championship? LMAO. Your adopted school is shit for football. Even a fool like you can see it. Last time you were in a game that meant something was 1967 against USC. How did that turn out?

  2. The weight training will show up when the play the big bad boys of the frozen tundra, ND. Physcality is a necessity with them. Make that Stanford lately as well. They have gotten big and mean. But you don’t have to worry about the chickens of ugly. The panzy waist pencil neck geeks are a joke.

      1. Easy 22, we ran over the bozos.

The UCLA O/L core that mugged the bozo D/L is back intact; they’re big, mean, agile and ready to roll.

        #UCLA 24 – OK 17……..You heard it first.

  3. This is Trojan football…

Not that hurry-up, air raid, no huddle crap Kiffin, Sarkisian and Errand Boy had been trying to run since 2010

  4. It’s a bit hard for Trojan fans such as myself to admit it, but Scott makes a smart point here. The kind of point only Scott is willing to make: most of the media is uncritical of the happy talk that comes outta coaches’ mouths at the start of each season. I HOPE we are stronger. I HOPE we are more focused. I HOPE we don’t act like we’re scared of bringing the football into the endzone this year (THEIR endzone, not OURS —-i.e., not the way Tua got us into the endzone). I listened to Dan Weber yesterday talk about how impressed he was with Helton at media day. He said the EXACT same thing last year. To repeat those optimistic words– verbatim–this year kinda undercuts his credibility, right? I’m not saying he might not be right (cuz I hope he is), I’m just saying that Dan and company say the same stuff every year — accordingly their words mean nothing. Put up or shut up time comes on August 31st.

    1. It is odd that no one in the press ever presses him on stuff.

Dan Weber was really hard on Gomer after games last season on the 24/7 site, maybe he’s just trying to be nice to start the season.

      1. I have a theory on why nobody (but nobody) presses Helton on stuff, karma. After about a year, most prosecutors have cross examined every type witness —the polite witness, the hostile witness, the erudite witness, etc. The scariest person to have on the stand is the “nice- guy -on- the outside- but- ready -to -go -nuts-at-the-wrong-question” witness. He’s the guy you need to warn the bailiff about ahead of time…..

      1. Remember back in the day at the Coliseum the guy that sold the programs? He had that Jimmy Durante type voice and would stand there and say, “Get your souvenir program”.

        Ha! That guy was classic!

      2. There was one kid selling guides at the coli in the 60’s whose stuff always looked like he had to walk through the rain with it. My Dad always made us buy our guides from him.

  5. Saw this on another Trojan football site…

Helton says Aug. 17 scrimmage will be a true scrimmage

I’m a little surprised by this and it’s still something that I’ll fully believe when I see it, but Clay Helton said today at media day that the August 17 practice in the Coliseum will be a true scrimmage, where they split into teams and treat it exactly like a preseason game.

The comment above was made by some yahoo in that site.

So if the team does split into two different teams for the scrimmage, how is Helton going to try and justify starting J.T. Daniels over Jack Sears after Sears outplays Daniels in the scrimmage?

  6. Clay Helton says theses things, because it gives the USC Rah Rah’s boners this time of year, there the only ones who feed into his bullshit. Bottom line, Clueless Clay will always be Clueless, nothing has changed, and it never will Under that clown 🤡
