USC Morning Buzz: Coliseum Not Quite Ready

I didn’t expect the Coliseum to be game ready. But I expected it to be scrimmage ready. And it was not Saturday.

Look at the pictures below: Nails coming out of the ground. An electrical cable going through the seats.

But the real problem was the audacity to screw over the fans by keeping the tower closed to the general public. Inspections and permits should have done well before Saturday.

Quite a few fans said they came just to see the tower. USC says it will have a tour on another day. When?

The tower was actually open to suite holders. But workers said there were only a few elevators operating. This made it difficult to get up-and-down the tower and made it an adventure to get from the bottom to the top.

One fan told me all the men’s restrooms were closed on his level of the Coliseum. There were also not a lot of concession options.

There wasn’t even a bottle of water available anywhere besides the ground floor. This meant some fans had to go down from the fifth floor to the ground for a bottle of water.

Oh, and water cost $5 a bottle.

Finally, USC announced the crowd size at 10,000. No way. USC was lucky if 7,000 attended.

  1. The stadium issues are excusable – for now. The team in the hand, oh boy. Get ready for a lot of 3 and outs and lots of yards and long TDS given up. 6-6 at best.

      1. gt —you’re only joking —but it looks like USC will be facing lawsuits if the place isn’t baby-proofed by August 31st…..

    1. I don’t think that it is excusable. It shows how incompetent these Board of Bustees are. If they can’t even hire the right people to get the renovation of the coliseum right, what makes you think that they could hire the right people to run a football program. They do things half way. They’re incompetent. They couldn’t make a profit if you put them in charge of running a lemonaide stand on a july day when it’s 110 degrees outside.

  2. I’m looking forward to the comedy show against Fresno State, because Lynn Swann will look like a dumb ass if they lose, and he will definitely come for Bozo Helton’s head behind closed doors 😂😂

    1. He’s not going to can Gomer after one game, hell he thinks bad years of recruiting are the cause of all the issues right now. Yeah, those 4 years of having top ten classes followed by last years 19th ranks class and this years current 50+ ranked class are sure the problem

      1. The recruiting plan for 2020 is:
        1) Win games , regain credibility and, then and only then, go looking for 4 & 5 star recruits ….or…..
        2) As a result of another losing season, fire Helton, announce hiring of superstar coach and, then and only then, start looking for 4 & 5 star recruits…

  4. I thought southern cal was supposed to be affluent and flush with cash… why did they go to home depot and pick up a bunch of unskilled day laborers to rebuild that dump?

Crappy neighborhood, crappy college, crappy football team, crappy stadium.

    1. What all wonder at is at the Rose Bowl the ‘Terry Donahue Press Box’…any news when they’re going to rename the female lavatories the ‘Nellie Wooden Memorial Commode’ complete with a blow dryer that says ‘…you leave my jonnie alone!’

      2. Dear Owns — Sincere question. Why did Bertrand Russell go from believing in the mystical, poetic sensibillia (whiffs of a transcendent reality) to believing that statements that weren’t immediately verifiable were meaningless?

      2. Seemed to me there were more there than the one mentioned…and they had a bbq with other former players…let’s wait till we hear from them before we announce their revulsion. Just sayin.

      3. True gotroy, the 170 were the former players at the bbq…not the honorees there for their anniversaries. Looks like the ‘69 team had a pretty good showing, I wonder if Dr Jensen was there?

  5. The paper today say Helton’s having trouble picking a quarterback. He said all three in residence quarterbacks had 2 touchdowns each. What he didn’t say was it took JT Daniels 4 tries while the others had only 3 tries. Also one of Daniels’ touchdowns came after he had been “sacked”
Does anyone believe there’s a competition?

    1. No. There isn’t a competition. So let’s move on and get the o-line and the receivers in sync with the guy who’s gonna be playing qb ASAP…..

  6. Come, come, MG, a subjective interpretation of B. Russell’s thoughts and conclusions is heresy and objectionable.

MG, kindly provide the context of Russell assumption “the unverifiable statement is meaningless.”

Just because I say SUCCX will go 4 – 8 in its 2019 FB Schedule MG, it’s hardly meaningless in light of the ugly bozo u fall practice reviews.
