Clay Helton Doesn’t Want You To Know Anything

For some reason, Clay Helton and Graham Harrell needed to look at the scrimmage video today before making any decisions on the quarterback derby, including cutting down reps to just two QB’s.

Everyone thinks JT Daniels will be named the starter. The interesting thing is Tuesday is when Helton starts barring the media from practices. So there won’t be any independent confirmation of what he is up to?

Helton is upset some media complain his practices are not physical enough. And he doesn’t want anyone seeing what happens this week in the quarterback race. So everything is now closed. Last time a coach tried that was Lane Kiffin. And he didn’t last too long once he did it before the 2013 season.

    1. Rah rahs supported the ban because they actually thought Scott Wolf was the problem for reporting that Kiffin was an incompetent nepotism hire. It’s hard to believe they still blame Wolf for reporting the incompetency of Pat Haden, Lynn Swann, Drunken Sark and Hugs.

      1. Wolf is a problem because he is a jerk who does nothing but troll and complain. He did it when Pete was here and we were winning everything. All of the ire pointed his way, he’s earned.

    2. When will some people learn. You are not going to play the game. When the game is played, you will be able to make your statements. I find I’d it sophomoric, selfish, self promoting for people who really have no effort on the field to try to affect decisions that will have an affect on the field. All you do is create artificial stress on all around you.
Training and strategy are hard enough to implement without someone in the stands telling the world what they don’t know…

Now this is the law of the jungle
It is true as blue is the sky
And Wolfe who shall keep it shall prosper
And the Wolfe who doesn’t shall die
As the creeper who travels the tree trunk
      Goes both forward and back
The pack is as strong as the wolf
And the Wolfe is as strong as the pack.

  1. I think Helton deserves a pass on this one. I’m only guessing but I think it’s highly possible that the delay in making an announcement on QB is so that Helton can meet with the kids and their families and explain where everybody stands. And, according to Dan Weber (who, it must be noted, has been wrong innumerable times before), from here on til the opener, the Trojans are going to be practicing new stuff as well as trick plays —-and they don’t want to give any of it away.

      1. Clay Helton sounds like a typical clown with no confidence in what he’s doing. I heard a college football analyst say that USC is a year away… lmao 😂 So I expect Lynn Swann to ride that bullshit wave too, because the longer Helton rides out that extension, the less money the administration loses on a firing

      2. Ha! [67, I kinda hate to hear we’re even practicing trick plays —but this promises to be a whole new approach to the game of football]….

    1. Arturo my friend, it may be true that Helton doesn’t want Scottie and the other members of the press to know. But remember that this is the man that screwed up the Browne/Darnold decision when it was obvious Darnold was a once in a generation QB. Gomer’s track record on these decisions are not good.

      1. By “these decisions” I presume you’re including Callaway’s retention after the Cotton Bowl…..

      2. Right again Maui Mike. Gomer is a nice man, but he hasn’t made smart decisions about personnel both on his staff and with his players. He had to be “threatened” by Pittman’s dad to get a good receiver playing time. He had to be “threatened” by his boss to get him to fire Callaway. He never got around to benching his center who was losing games for him with errant snaps. I could go on and on. He is involved in personnel decisions when we all thought he was going to give his assistants autonomy.

    2. As if there isn’t anyone who can’t see Helton’s stupid incompetent offensive play calling coming from a mile away. And yes, it’s going to be Helton calling the plays, not Harrell.

Anyway, Harrell runs the same crap schemes so it doesn’t matter which of those two idiots sends the play in, opposing defenses are going to jam Trojan receivers at the line of scrimmage and take away those redundant bubble screens and 5 – 7 yard quick out and slant passes. Trojan receivers getting manhandled at the line of scrimmage just like last year, unable to create separation.

The Trojan RB’s are talented, unfortunately that idiot Helton doesn’t understand the importance of the offensive line so effective run blocking will be non-existent and the run game will go nowhere except for the occasional solid run due to the sheer will and talent of one of the RB’s.

The TE position will be a waste again this year as the idiot Helton will continue to use him as a decoy, sending him downfield with no intention on throwing him the ball, instead of leaving him in to help on pass protection.

Everyone already knows Clay Helton’s M.O. and that is that he’s incompetent and clueless.

  2. The offense has no flow with JT Daniels he moves like a Sr. Citizen at a Bingo game. Slow and methodical. It’s hard to get into any Rhythm. Then on Third down he chucks a 50/50 deep ball.

This is why I prefer Jack Sears. He moves quicker and the offense seems to have a better pace to it.

*Neither one of them are overwhelming but at least with Jack you have to defend the run
