Another View On USC QB Battle

A former USC assistant coach from the Pete Carroll era contacted me because he thought the quarterback depth chart was interesting, especially having true freshman Kedon Slovis at No. 2.

“It’s all BS so that there is no pressure on JT Daniels,” the coach said. “If they take out JT and Jack Sears performs, they can’t put JT back in. So they make the freshman the backup and (Clay) Helton can pull him right out because he is a freshman and everyone will understand.”

    1. I think Helton did believe in faith, family and football…..until Sam left and he was forced to look at himself in the mirror. Now he believes in half truths, bullying players, burying potential enemies and press black outs…….

  1. Helton recruited JT, so he had a leg up always. Fink isn’t going anywhere since he has one more year. Sears has 2 years, so it was always obvious that he was going to leave after he graduates in December. So Helton had to move Kedon up because if he made him 4th and a redshirt he would probably leave since Young shows up next year.

  2. I’m baffled as to why Jack Sears, and Matt Finks didn’t leave the program to become starters elsewhere, because clearly, Clay Helton had no plans for them. One of them could have been under the tutelage of Jeff Tedford, and starting at Fresno State this season, but I guess they’re above that .

  3. Theories are like assholes. Everyone has one and they all stink. Nobody knows what goes on in the mind of Helton. We got a fleeting glimpse of Fink and Sears, maybe the adrenaline wears off in practice and they don’t shine. It is silly Ucla level shit to think that Helton has a “deal” with JT or anyone else. Helton is not stupid he wouldn’t gamble his job on a weak quarterback just to play a kid who isn’t better than the rest.
And Harrell isn’t interested in losing his job after one season, he would have spoken up by now if only by anonymous source to Wolf. This story doesn’t hold water. If JT is crappy then the rest are crappier. Move on people. There is more than one flavor of Kool-Aid Scott’s favor is “turd in the punch bowl-cherry” Stop buying it.

    1. Helton is stupid and he knows he’s been lucky as hell that USC has been stupid enough to give him the head coaching job and that he’s lasted as long as he has.

The amount of time Helton has been the OC and now head coach at USC has been gravy for that clown, he knows once USC wakes up and fires his worthless ass he’ll never get another coaching job.

Helton can retire once he’s canned and feel extremely fortunate that there was someone like Lynn Swann who was stupid enough to give him a contract extension that allowed that idiot enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life.

Good riddance to that second rate Errand Boy when he’s finally gone!

  4. Sears will graduate in December so there’s no use in him making a stink, he only has to put up with that idiot Helton until then and then he can leave with his two years of remaining eligibility and find a school/team where he can get properly coached up.

As for Fink, he knows J.T. Daniels can’t handle the pressure or the hits of D1 football and probably figures that it’s inevitable that he’ll see some action on the field at some point early in the season for the Trojans.

    1. Last season when J.T. Daniels went 1 – 5 in his last 6 games?

      LOL!

  5. Sears being 4th on the ladder might be the best thing that ever happened to him. He doesn’t play a down, graduates with 2yrs left & goes to Davis for a masters.
Starts for the Aggies 2020. Wouldn’t that be a bitch?
