USC Notes: Back To Recruiting

USC’s first home game means a lot of recruits will be invited to the Fresno State. But we hear one prominent local recruit was dismayed because he invited by a low-level staffer and not a coach, which is custom for the bigger recruits.

  • If you go to the USC bookstore, you might have trouble getting a No. 18 jersey (JT Daniels). The bookstore ordered them but Nike is supposedly having production issues and not supplied any No. 18 jerseys. Maybe Steve Daniels (father of JT) can get on it.
  • Petros Papadakis weighed in on Sears’ transfer: “My guess is, when you are 4th string, you are the scout team QB. You are not with the 1’s, you are not doing the game plan. That is a giant slap in the face to Jack Sears and his performance over the years.”

  1. Carol folt was definitely a surprise choice for USC after resigning at UnC before she would have been terminated for acting without approval of its Board of Governors at UNC . She is in way over her head at USC with its powerful donors

Listen to Helton’s post practice presser: “Our Team was SO excited to have President Folt show her support—it really means a lot to the team.” Totally absurd statements like have left Helton with zero credibility. First tier coaches know their players, individually or collectively, aren’t moved one way or the other by a university president’s attendance at practice. [& all the empty words in the world can’t change that fact one iota].

    That they’re going to both be fired after the first few losses!
    And she’s considering Urban Meyer, Jack Del Rio for Head Coach and her own AD from North Carolina.
    Both of these Dimwits seem to be Happy
    With her decision!!

      2. The bag’s rebound totally catches him by surprise and he topples back like the villain in a Woody Woodpecker cartoon. It was such an emblematic moment —and it meant he not only had never hit a bag before in his very long life ….but that he didn’t understand Newton’s 3rd law (for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction).

  7. USC will not be producing any #1 draft choices at quarterback, linebacker, offensive lineman, or defensive lineman over the next 4 or 5 seasons… FACT! And Carol Fault is explaining to Lynn Swann, and Bozo Helton, that she’s just a figurehead, and any athletic administration decisions come from Rick Caruso. And since he could careless about athletics, their jobs are safe, and secure

    NC, Duke, AZ, UCLA, Oregon also in the mix. Pretty much looks like NC and now Duke. Don’t see him playing for us, but one thing we have is that he played with Evan Mobley over the summer on the USA-U19.
    I think Jaylen Clark will end up at SC.
    The power forward who visited Bradley Enziwiyo (I know that is not right) might be a good addition.

    Right now we are the 32nd team in the Tournament per Andy Katz.
    Andy Enfield needs to show he can coach the big games now with wins that are against teams who are relevant. Not UC Riverside.

      1. It seems like a good idea.
        A contest with the a true heavyweight. Premier Basketball Pogram of the East for sure. Head Coach is now in the conversations with Coach K, Roy Williams, Bill Self, etc.
        2 National Titles and 3 Final Fours with Jay Wright.
        For us this looks like a step towards big things only the game doesn’t matter and players are at risk of injury.
        Andy just needs to beat the Millers, Altmans, Cronin, Utah and Colorado first. This team is good enough to be in the Tournament the last two years easily. Players went down more than a lot of other teams but Enfield lost games we shouldn’t have because he doesnt coach them in the last 8 mins.
        We’ll see.

        Oregon just officially became the #4 class for last years class because they had a 5-Star big man and 4-star reclassify and are eligible to play this season. They added 3 players the last month i believe and are supposed to be tough this season.

  11. Bama really paying for those physical practices as both their starting MLBs are out for the season with knee injuries. Only thing Helton is doing right- managing injuries.

  12. I’ll believe it when I see it. Carol Folt won’t do a thing. She was brought in to hold the water for the BOT. As you can see Swann and Helton are smiling like a pair of bought off politicians. They do not look like a pair of guys sitting on the hot seat.

  13. It was a slap in the face…….a genuine humiliation. But had they put Fink as #4, that would also have been a slap in the face. Here’s a guy who came off the transfer portal to come back and challenge for the starting job and he has a great fall and yet he ends up #4, running the scout team. They should have just put Fink as #2 and Sears as #3. Let Slovis run the scout team this year. Boht Fink and Sears would probably transfer anyway next year and Slovis would get his chance next year as a redshirt freshman with 4 years to play. The fact that they did it they way they did it makes me think that Daniels was Heltons decision and Slovis was Harrells decision to get him in position to go in if Daniels gets hurt or the team isn’t doing well under Daniels. Helton just went along with it to keep his OC happy. Slovis is the guy Harrell really wants in there right now. But he is being overruled by Helton.

    5-7, 4-8, 6-6, doesn’t matter. They all remain employed!!!
    Notice the narrative and focus employed by the Administration for the final scrimmage, ALL about the Tower, not about the Team.

    USC beats Fresno, so what, they beat a depleted team in a lower conference, to be expected in the College Football World. However, should they lose, the Pundits and Mavens of Sports Journalists will have a field day !!!
