USC moved Dominic Davis from cornerback to wide receiver today. This is just the latest move for Davis, who originally played tailback.
- Clancy Pendergast said today the defense can go two deep (22 players). He also said that last season and we all know how well that worked out.
Pendergast should have been fired at the end of last season. Gave up 290 yards on 40 plus carries to a single ucla back, Kelly. And ucla had almost no passing game, so there was no question whatsoever about what the play call was going to be. And still, Pendergast’s D could not stop Kelly.

I Just finished listening to Dan Weber lying to everyone about how JT Daniels separated himself in the quarterback competition.
What an embarrassment.

The shame is that at one time, and not that long ago (as recently as say three years ago), he was an excellent analyst (he’s a former coach, very smart person, with a long history of covering sports dating back to his start covering Kentucky basketball)…
I mentioned to MG a couple of weeks ago how I could no longer stomach listening to the Peristyle after the way they so clearly had in effect become a mouthpiece for the regime at the end of last season…the inference for me is that Dan was told to stop being critical (he used to be highly critical – particularly at the time USC didn’t retain Coach O and instead hired Sark) because they already had Coach Hyde to be “the critic” (they also changed the types of “guests” they had – used to have people who let fly with highly critical opinions – now it’s exclusively the likes of SunshineGun Spratling).
Perhaps one of the worst aspects of this (and the same holds true just as well for those of us on a site like this as it does for those who do this for a living) is how there is no accountability, as in how they will, once the boat quickly begins sinking again this season, shapeshift and act like they were opposed to Helton’s retention…when in fact they and others have become complicit.
They, and all of us, should have to face the music when our pronouncements are proven false…

Last yr he thought the same thing…I still think with this ‘O’ line Matt or Jack are vastly better…but that is how he honestly sees it…

Just what they need…another wide receiver.

Williams, Vaugnns, Pittman, St. Brown are like the starters- I know that only 3 start. London, Jones, McClain, and now Dominic Davis. McCoy and Ford won’t be ready for a while. Makes sense- hope he (Davis) uses speed to break off some long gains.

You also have Devon William and John Jackson III as receivers. I saw both of them in practice and I am high on them. They are very good. Williams is around 6’4″ and can run and catch. Jackson has speed and runs precise routes, like his dad. He is about 6’1″.

It’s all a clever ruse. They’ll bring him out for warm ups looking like a receiver and then bam! they’ll bench him without warning. Just another wasted scholarship used to fake out an opponent.
Next stop the transfer portal…

I figured he must have said something and now he may never play. I hope I’m wrong about that.

In reading up on Fresno State, their OL sounds better than USC’s. And their QB may be mobile so that could lead to a contest between Air Raid and Option QB schemes. All Fresno has to do is stack the line and rush the QB, a winning formula for Texas, Notre Dame and UCLA.

Wish I was going to Vegas so I could bet the farm on Fresno St. +13.5. Easy money.

Probably because you don’t own a pot to piss in much less a farm.

He was a fine high school football athlete/track star…sound familiar?
SC head coach and subordinates, unable to develop talent obviously, just move people out of position then to another and waste them…complain to them and you get buried…

Dominic Davis can be a great weapon if Helton had a vision for utilizing talent.
He is a perfect Desmond Reed or DeAnthony Thomas as a pass catcher out of the backfield. Exposing slow LBs the way Reed would when Bush needed a breather.

As James mentioned, Weber at one time was a good[not excellent] analyst.
Attempting to listen to him and Keely now doing an Instant Analysis video, his pauses and gulping and swallowing between statements is off putting and indicates that his age is catching up with him. He, like the others on the three main stream Rah…Rah sites continue to proffer the ‘Company Line’ in order to be included in ‘Capo Tessalone’) inner circle and receive credentials and remain relevant, otherwise they would be nobody.
On the other hand, those with unfettered loyalty, deep investment or blind trust label Wolf as a ‘turn coat’ ‘Hater’ ‘Aggrieved Alum’ or any of the names bandied about. Perhaps Wolf has seen behind the curtain and wants to have people look beyond the Charade and Bubble to see the reality of Trojan Football, it’s obvious what the objectives of the S.I.D. are, Cardinal and Gold Ether…Send Money, Support Your School !!!

Yes – I think this goes hand-in-hand with the history and/or ongoing concern about the prospects (not certainty as so many seem to believe) for the football program to be returned to its former lofty perch…Howard Jones was the last and perhaps only “home run” hire – McKay and Carroll were pure luck, and Robinson (Part 1), while a good hire, is still contested by insiders (in multiple books and documentaries) as not necessarily having been the best hire available.
Nothing at present suggests anything other than another continuing slide into mediocrity (damage limited only by the concentrated pool of nearby high school talent).

you got some of it correct…McKay was on staff and hired like Robinson…PC was actually a known commodity and applied and hired …the slide is TRUE beyond any reasonable prudent doubt…period

PC was known but like the 5th choice after no one else appeared to want the job. McKay was essentially an unknown/unproven assistant on staff they gave the job to coming out of a period of mixed results (thought he would be fired after his second year). Robinson was hired over Dave Levy…

Dan is a good reporter and for years has been honest and has criticized the skipping of practices in prep of big games, bowl games, etc…also the soft practices and not using full speed .full contact ,blocking and tackling enough to prepare for the season and during the season and its affect vs games with top ranked teams like ND BAMA OHIO ST, etc…with the hiring of GH the OC he has muted some of this but a few weeks ago did state the soft practices were too many, and voiced concern…so…I have not budged an inch on this and unlike Dan I see another hellton losing season, even though the Pac12 itself is soft…he also the only reporter who does in depth analysis and investigations into the ncaa fiasco with USC…gotta’ love him for that…period

Agreed to the hilt. I think Dan was superb until…see above…and even though he can be hard to listen to, Coach Hyde knows football (how can you not run a 2 minute drill? why can’t you execute a simple draw/screen series? speaking of series, why are all of your plays designed in isolation instead of being part of series? why don’t you play backups when you have a big lead? why aren’t you developing depth? why are position groups so lacking in technique? why are you not pushing players in practice, particularly the linemen?) and has been highly critical of this regime throughout…but I realized the evening after the UCLA game last year what a waste of time the rest of them are/have become.

The concern use to be about winning the National Title. Today it’s about having a winning record. This is reason enough to have Helton and Swan escorted out of Heritage Hall to somewhere in the Pacific ocean. While I believe SC may be better than last year meltdown of both offense and defense (perhaps simplicity and speed will make a difference), I don’t expect it to change the downward trajectory. REALLY, TailbackU becomes Air Raid (which is all the rage at looser schools who can’t recruit OL…is that the story of SC?) ARRGGGHHH!!!
