The Rumor Mill On Possible Decommit

I’ve already written that a source at Mater Dei told me quarterback Bryce Young might decommit from USC and go to Alabama.

Now I’ve heard from another source that Young spent some time at UCLA over the weekend, presumably Sunday. Young is still officially committed to USC.

But with all the uncertainty regarding Clay Helton, JT Daniels redshirting and Kedon Slovis starting, would anyone be surprised if he went elsewhere?

  1. I saw him play against St Francis Academy and he is truly a dual threat quarterback. He has a great quick release and accuracy against the top notch St Francis line. There is opportunity at USC. He sounds enthused about playing at SC.

    1. They have a True Frosh- the #1 rated pocket passer out of AZ- on the roster. Just as “ young” as Slovis, but then you’d have to live in Norman, OK. Yikes. In that sense I’d rather live in Westwood than that flyover state.

  2. I’m surprised he committed to USC in the first place. If I were this young man’s father, I would be in-touch with Lincoln Riley at OU. They run a spread offense that compliments his skill set; and, so far, all Riley’s QBs have flourished–that’s putting it mildly. If I were Lincoln Riley, I might reach out to Jack Sears, who would also fit nicely in OU’s system.

  3. A Dual threat q/b running spread , or option is a must in a one back offense, or the ‘D’ line only has to worry about the one running back… Daniels at Ariz St is a dual and they beat Mich St…SC’s Daniels is a no threat even before his knee injury in a spread one back,it is a loser idea …and I guess slovis can’t run either, but hellton could not careless or SC would have had Jack or Matt …both can really run, while running things.

  4. He hasn’t officially signed yet, so why does it matter? Helton will not be the coach next season, so best to wait to see who takes over. I think he would love to be a big part of a new SC dynasty!

  5. Perhaps the Chipster is interested in Young, he does somewhat fit in the Marcus Mariota mold, shorter though. ‘IF’ Chipster were to grab a 5 star recruit, it may very well alter the thinking of other 4 or 5 star California recruits…who knows what the reaction might be.
To me, Dorian-Thompson is an anomaly can’t really figure out what he is outstanding doing.

    1. Chip is nearly done. 5-26 in his last 2 coaching stops.

He will be in the ESPN booth either next year or the year after, timing of his departure depending on whether he can snooker ucla in thinking that the frosh and sophs playing now will break out next year.

The only way ucla could now compete for 4 or 5 star recruits is if the kid wants ucla for non-football reasons.

      1. 67 —The underclassman at UCLA will NEVER get up for playing for Chip: They hate him….. and they play like it….

      1. So damn true, 67. The players rose up and gave each one of those coaches signature victories over very good teams (including Dorrell’s inspired victory over USC). All Chip has is a victory over a team that had completely quit on Helton.

  6. With his kind of talent UCLA would be crazy. If I were him I’d want a program with some stability……not a place where 90% of the fan base wants to lynch the coach.
Either way…….it looks like USC will be really stable in a year.

      1. Utah 35 – who’s on first, Harrell, helton or slovis Clownsters 10.

Just think MG, while SUCCX FB is sucking hind titty Friday night, Swanny will be collecting interest on his severance package $$$$ and be on the links Sat. morning without a care in the world.

You MG will be whining about the Utah loss until the next bozo FB game catastrophe.

  7. MG auld stick you state:

“Chip: ‘They hate him’….. and they play like it…”

That’s a harsh assessment MG, so I ‘m going to need some strong evidence to reinforce your blasphemous lie.

Don’t you know every young man likes to play for ‘Mr unlisted phone number’?
That attendance shot of the bowl 10min b4 kickoff certainly inspired & fired up many potential recruits. All 500 feel free to move toward the 50yd line.
