USC Almost Vanished Into Thin Air

Why isn’t anyone talking about how gassed the defense looked Saturday?

At one point, I thought it was semi-embarrassing. Especially since it was still the first half.

So the apologists will claim it was the altitude of Provo (4,551 feet). If that is the case, why didn’t USC do extra running last week in practices? Or hydrate more?

We have all been sold the con of the nation’s top strength and conditioning program in the nation. Some out-of-touch puntdits fell for it.

How could it be the top the way the players looked at BYU?

  1. The problem was the terrible tackling that went on throughout the game. Bad coaching. No more excuses. Fools gold. This program won’t get better until the entire coaching staff is gone. “Air Raid” is complete bullshit. These players turn into wimps with that system. How many NFL players came out of programs where the “Air Raid” offense was in place ? Time to start running the ball.

    1. SC would lead among all teams in “missed tackles” , “over pursuit on defense”, and “players looking confused on defense”, if those categories existed.

The D looks gassed in every game – they are on the field a lot through their own fault, and also because the Harrell offense doesn’t create much ball control.

All true —but I still don’t get why people are ragging on Harrell —his is the ONLY unit that has statistically improved. Everything else about this team is demonstrably worse than last year….including the # of injuries —Keely Eure said it’s reached alarming proportions.
        P. S.
I’m hoping that there’s some built in problem for the Utah players playing in the coliseum’s more oxygen enriched environment (“I can’t breathe —this air is too heavy”).

      1. And we passed 34 times, ran 45 times against BYU.
I’m not defending the coaching staff, just saying you should not just throw our generalities.

  2. They go to to Colorado too and Utah…all Pac 12 have away games there and some times BYU too…nobody accepts that as an excuse ,plus they can carry extra cylinders of oxygen for the side lines…

  3. What a surprise!!!!??? We are going to play at BYU. Why did they not tell us? We could have prepared for it. I demand a hearing into these strange things of us traveling to places without being told up front.

  4. You act as if the Trojans were blown off the field! Please……the main reason the Trojans lost is the coach planned for a freshman quarterback, to throw to a freshman wide receiver, with the game on the line, already in field goal range.

      1. Two true freshman deciding the game at the end…..that’s fine if they’re best, but I don’t think so….

  5. There’s no such thing as a coach learning on the job when it comes to coaching a power 5 program. So if Clay Helton was an idiot in year one, which he was, then he’ll be an idiot going into his 4th season, which he is. This is the same fool who couldn’t tell the difference between a first round NFL quarterback(Sam Darnold) , and one who had average skills at best, to play in college (Max Browne)

  6. SCooter,

What is the photo representing? If you are trying to say the stadium was empty during the game, then you are blind. The only empty seats were the ones up at the very top in the endzone. The photo was probably taken an hour and a half before the game when the gates opened up.
