Like I said yesterday, I put zero stock into those Carol FoltRick CarusoUrban Meyer rumors.

    1. 67 —Based on this quote, Folt is indicating the OPPOSITE of support (the implicit premise is that coaching decisions need to be made —but not by her)…..

  1. AD and the search committee should choose the best they can find for the money they are authorized to offer…and I guess the president of the university either agrees or not.
    Or
At some universities they may play no roll at all.
I guess the univ prez also represents the board of trustees,to some degree.

    1. They do represent the BoT, something Folt forgot causing her to get fired from her last job when she ignored the givings of the board and tore down statues to try to make herself look better. Folt isn’t new, she helped UNC hide, obfuscate, and just plain throw folks under the bus to keep the money folks involved in UNC sports happy. As for the hiring decisions, we can look at how they went at UNC for a clue; she recognizes like anyone else that boosters paying salaries have a say. Wolf lied and said USC did not have a committee for coaching and AD hires. Of course they did, that’s USC policy, as it is at virtually every school. USC said who they were too, they just didn’t send out press releases.

  2. This is one of my favorite photos of Clay Helton. I spoke the cop’s (behind them) sister’s boyfriend’s aunt about this very meeting and she said, ” I wish to remain anonymous, but I heard they were talking about a job for Clay Helton when Urban said, ” No I’m sorry clay I have all of the towel boys I want.”” (diagram that sentence English majors)
Anyway the scuttlebutt is that they are waiting for the new AD to be hired before pulling the plug. This makes sense since the only other viable replacement for Clay Helton is working the late shift at Bob’s Big Boy in Barstow. (meaning anyone could replace Helton we need a real coach before we drop him like a Denny’s menu on a Tuesday night)

    1. USCDude,
I’m only guessing…..but I don’t think Scott is really the guy you want talking to players or coaches prior to or immediately after the Alabama opener…..

  3. Folt’s response re: hiring a football coach is consistent with that of any good leader. To say otherwise would be usurping the authority of the new AD. Instead, she has empowered the new AD by deferring to his/her authority to select the new coach. But make no mistake about it, Pres. Folt’s fingerprints will be all over both the selection and evaluation of candidates as well as the decision on the next HC. As the new president, she has precious little margin for error in the early stages of her tenure on all key decisions on change. She needs momentum and support from all the key institutional stakeholders ASAP. For this reason, hiring Urban Meyer is a no-brainer. . . .

  4. I love this women! She is correct…..it is not the presidents job to decide on coaching positions…….since its not her its got to be the AD. Once the AD is hired he or she will decide Gomers’ future…….and who might be a replacement. Her job is to hire the AD. Since the AD will have no past connection to Gomer he will exist only on his performance. You’re gone dufus……and for the first time in many moons the Trojan family can reunite into the future behind a new coach that will at least know when to punt without calling timeout.

    1. Right on Fred Flintstone!! As far as I am concerned, Folt has gained about a 1-2 years of equity with me with the manner in which she quickly dispatched the Blindsided One. It was what needed to be done, particularly with the LA Times article that Hughes put the Blindsided One in the AD post. You gotta love a girl who tells Swanny, “Here is your resignation letter. Sign it or be fired.” Ruthless!!!

      1. Funny. That’s not the version Swann is telling.
        Swann: I’m leaving today!
Folt: I can’t do this without you.
Swann: My mind is made up!
