Reggie Bush Creates Special Atmosphere

If the attendance was nothing special, there was a special atmosphere at the Coliseum on Friday night with Reggie Bush in attendance.

I won’t get into Bush’s refusal to show contrition for his actions or his past comments putting blame on USC. He showed up and took a shot at Clay Helton. You don’t see that from Matt Leinart.

The end-zone celebration with Markese Stepp was something you don’t see every day either.

I’m sure Fox Sports thought it hit a home run with that moment. But does Fox ever wonder what a Utah fan watching the game thinks? You’ve got Bush and Leinart cheering in the end zone during the game. That’s got to offend a portion of your audience.

Nothing Fox does ever gives the impression it cares about the non-USC fan during these type of telecasts. If USC had a third Heisman winner willing to work in the studio, Fox would probably hire them too.

  • By the way, I wrote on USC247.com on Friday that USC told game officials during the week it expected 55,000 at the Coliseum. Lo and behold, the official attendance was 55,719.

The actual attendance was obviously lower.

    1. Dear Pisley, the whiny, fat mouth, bozo titmouse has returned – LOL.

At BYU today, in the 3rd qtr.:

      Washington 45

      BYU 12

The Dear Pisley, next bozo loss, MIA O/U is 7 days.

      1. Owns —You’re on the money again. Most of the teams in the Pac 12 look capable of beating most anyone (including each other) on any given day — Cal, Oregon, Utah, Washington State, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, USC —they’ve all had their moments—- except for the hapless, star-crossed bruins.

    2. Whaaaaa…,whaaaaa… whaaaa! You sound like the typical USC basher… when the Trojans LOSE? “Well of course they are a weak program”

When they win? Excuse after excuse about how the losing team didn’t have this, or were rebuilding, yadadyada!

When Utah becomes a media hub and it’s teams actually produce the caliber of players that make NON Utah fans interested, then whine about Fox letting to local boys from a storied program getting giddy on live tv! Now go BACk to Utah and pop a tab off your cold “ near beer” and relax til next Saturday….

  2. I’ll tell ya what, Flow, I’m certainly offended when Matthew McConaughey is splashed all over the TV during Texas games. That’s gotten old already. It was good to see Reggie back in the coliseum. Why can’t he and Leinart celebrate their team when not on the air? Is there some rule against that? At least they don’t hate their alma mater like you, Flow.

    1. Matthew McConaughey isn’t employed by Fox Sports so the national television audience doesn’t expect him to at least try to act impartial. Reggie and Matt are. They might as well have Pete Arbogast in the studio with those two homers.

  3. That is a very legitimate comment Scott about the ‘clueless’ ignorance towards focusing on two former players yukking it up in the end zone with complete indifference how that is taken by other viewers.

Also true about Bush’s wisecracking about Helton…… he says next to nothing sandwiched between Quinn and Meyer. Leinart has little to say – shame Brock Huarte isn’t on that dais or even Papadakis. Bush and Leinart are a pair of empty suits.

  4. I didn’t hear the whole comment, but I would agree about the shirts off thing. It’s one of those things you can do if you have a coach who lets the team be a little loose, but if you want to be “flashy” like that, you gotta have the game to back it up. You can’t be out there like that when you just got beat by an inferior team and you haven’t done anything in years. When you have your shirt off in warm ups or are otherwise “showing out” a little bit, you gotta earn that kind of swag first. I understand what he means and I’m not surprised a lot of people don’t, but Reg has always been a “fly” young dude and he understands about style and putting certain things out there.

With that said, Reg also knows he has to make things right to really come home again. I love Reggie Bush just like most ‘SC fans, but he hurt the program and he knows it. Reggie let something from the streets destroy opportunities for a lot of young guys and hurt a program I know he loves very much. I fully expect to hear something real and from his heart about that situation at some point in the future.

      1. You love a decade of mediocrity after Reggie Bush’s selfishness and greed single handedly destroyed the USC football dynasty? Some of us don’t find Reggie’s act to be cute or endearing and want that decade back.

      2. gt — I will always respect that sentiment. It’s the way my best friend feels —and nothing will ever change his mind. [I regard the decade of problems that followed Reggie’s indiscretions as more overkill by the NCAA than serious misconduct by Reggie. I’ll never really buy how his dumb and greedy stepdad’s conduct could be attributed to USC …or how Reggie’s refusal to rat him out justified the severity of Reggie’s punishment]. Reggie’s far from blameless in all this …but the serious crap originated with stepdaddy.

      3. Probably, MG. I don’t really have any hate for him, but I hate that something he did hurt the program. It just seems like something that didn’t have to happen.

  6. The Pete Carrol era wolfie ragged on, and now those athletes are on fox so he rags on…stupid is as stupid does… and the rants about Reggie and the kangaroo court ncaa rants , meanwhile SC put together 4 qrtrs of football vs #10 Utah. I saw some improvement in ‘D’ line ,able to get tough in red zone, not sure if ‘O’ line for Utah is a good measuring point and losing their star running back surely made a difference.
SC’O’ line was up against a real good defense, like it will be vs Washington and ND.
Too bad more people do not appreciate what Matt did, and see him for the best player at q/b due to his many abilities, just like Jack has.
I picked Washington to win north, edging Oregon and then Pac12 no matter who SC has at q/b…they are just better over all, although how they lost to an improving Cal I do not know; and ND is way out of SC’s league, they still practice every time ‘real’ football and it shows. But miracles can take place in football, one never knows.

  7. Anyone else have a problem with accepting Reggie back? I do,. I had three signed jerseys by him, framed. Helmet, etc. When I learned all he had to do was pay Lake back and this would of likely never been found out…I never got over that, along with Carroll. I just don’t think he understands how badly he fucked USC over,
