Bryce Young Flips From USC To Alabama

I wrote about this on Sept. 2 and now it is official: Bryce Young has flipped his commitment from USC to Alabama.

So now the perceived crown jewel of the recruiting class and only five-star is no longer part another average recruiting class. Or less-than-average by USC standards.

The peanut gallery will say “who cares, Kedon Slovis is better” but Young’s decision was made before JT Daniels got hurt or Slovis took over. And these people weren’t saying that a few weeks ago so it shows how fickle they are.

I wrote several weeks ago how at least one Mater Dei coach tried to talk Young into changing his mind. But Young was disillusioned with the program under Clay Helton, sources tell me.

More than anything, Young’s departure is a real blow to perceptions about USC. He was the guy recruiting other players to come to USC. He always was steadfast in interviews about being committed to USC.

Now he is off to Alabama. Do you blame him? He doesn’t even know at this point who his coach would be at USC next season.

    1. Yes, please crush the university of washing12 huskies next weekend. We have a shared adversity. We are both tired of being little brother to those “salmon and Chardonnay” snobs in Seattle.

and don’t worry about your QB situation: your like Oregon. The University sells itself. You have better luck finding an arm like Darnold who plays with passion than this unfaithful bandwagon jumper.

    2. He got a dose of Pudly’s act and decided to get the bleep out of town. Great job, Pudly. You better take down that 2020 recruiting championship banner.

      1. Look, Young does not want to come to SC only to have JTD handed back the starting QB position with no real competition. Helton has pet players that kills recruiting. The re-invigorated play of the team recently has little to do with Helton, who was forced to fire his old “pet”, crony coaches and hand the offense to a new assistant. It is plausible that Helton could have a winning record and win the PAC-12 south and still be fired because the top local players don’t want to play for him. Players like McCoy and Steele came back to SC only because Helton was forced to make coaching changes. The Air Raid still hasn’t proven itself and no top team that uses it has reached the national playoffs. Helton isn’t a leader and has no plan on how to develop high school offensive linemen like Enfield has in bringing top local players into the basketball program. BYU parks some of its linemen was walk ons for a couple of years and they graduate at age 24 or so in order to develop them. Enfield is developing players in high school. What is Helton doing? Playing pet.

  1. I really don’t care if we ever get another QB from Mater Dei.
Bryce has talent do doubt. But what does a commitment mean from a HS kid anyways… Here’s a hint Nothing.
QB is the 1 position we didn’t need another of.
Now if he was a 4 or 5 Star O or D lineman .. That would be an issue for sure. This staff or what will be left of it, needs to concentrate on getting some talented linemen… skill guys will always be a dime a dozen at SC.

    1. Would take DJ every day of the week and twice today.
To Bryce: Football wise, ok Bama is as good as it gets. The Uni of SoCal will set you up for life and you get to live here as opposed to Tusculoosa (
      yikes). Vaya con Dios.

Is this enough to fire Helton? Coming from Chapel Hill, Folt has to know that recruiting the best ( UNC has Jordan, Carter, Worthy, etc while SC has the 7 Heismans, Munoz, Lott, Junior etc) is the lifeblood of elite programa. Let’s face it, there is a fire sale going on with regards to So Cal recruiting. At worst, this has to be alarming for Folt.

      ish Bryce the best.

  2. Here is a guy I hope considers SC

    10. Miller Moss — Alemany (Mission Hills)
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound rising junior threw for 2,714 yards and 19 touchdowns last season. He’s ranked the ninth best pro-style quarterback nationally in his class.
247Sports evaluation: Strong-armed quarterback who’s a pure thrower with nice pocket presence … arm strength to make every throw on the field … understands when to throw with touch and accuracy.

  3. Good for Bryce Young, he’s getting great advice from someone who knows Clay Helton’s a Clown 🤡. Probably his High School Coach , Bruce Rollinson… lmao 😂

  4. If we get our hopes and Hugs gets fired, and a competent new coach is hired, then 18 year olds may flip again. If not, then the dumpster fire will continue.

  5. If this is a surprise then welcome to USC Football w/ Clay Helton as the “Coach”
Did he do any coaching against Utah?
I witnessed a quarterback full of adrenaline throw three mini hail mary’s and was fortunate to go 3 for3. 3 TD’s.
Clay had no part in that.

Urban Meyer had a front row look at a football team that has all the talent but nobody to prepare and develop them like they deserve.

Its just a matter of time before we see a disaster in Seattle or South Bend.

Urban Meyer just has to bring film of the Cotton Bowl when he runs into Folt and that should close the Helton era for good.
