Sunday Night With Clay Helton

Clay Helton said QB Kedon Slovis is going through concussion protocol and he would have an update Tuesday.

“He’s doing good, but he has to go through all the necessary steps.” Helton said of Slovis.

  • Helton on USC beating Utah: “It felt almost like a playoff game. It was an electric atmosphere.”

An electric atmosphere with 40,000 in the Coliseum?

  • On the defense being unable to contain the edge: “On the perimeter, we’ve got to do a better job of setting the edge and bending it back to the linebackers.”
  • Helton on USC safety Talanoa Hufanga: “In my 10 years (at USC), I don’t know if I’ve seen a better game by a safety than Talanoa Hufanga (against Utah).”

  1. If I were Helton, I wouldn’t have tipped my hand even a little bit by saying Kedon was doing “good” (or “well” as Cal75 would prefer). What’s the point? Too much information. Let Washington wait at least until Tuesday to hear the news.
Is it possible that Coach Helton is just now starting to notice that practically ALL the yardage gained —going all the way back to Fresno —-against USC is being gained on the edges?

    1. Leave me out of this Guarino. He’s your coach. You’d have though that he would say, “Gosh darn I love Slovis. He’s like family. He’ll always be in my heart. Pray that he gets well”.

If Mr. Fink doesn’t start then there’s something rotten in Denmark.

      1. Hi Cal75,
As Howard Cosell once said to Ali, “you’re being a bit truculent.”

      2. CAL 75,

Happy for your long haired hippy friends beating the sec team and having them cry. Refs were correct. Ol Miss was out of time outs and used their challenge before. No need to stop the clock. I hope you are undefeated when SC plays CAL. That would be a barn burner.

  2. Read this from Conquest Chronicles on the new and improved edition of how ‘the princess’ always rigs the script especially when they can’t do it as everyone else does…. i.e. ‘play the man’?

    https://bit.ly/2mtMucX

Always a ‘special deal’ for ‘the princess’ …. no CCG for them oh no…the rest (124 Div 1) of the ‘hoi polloi’ must ‘prove’ themselves but for us “…are you serious? We’ll make sure the Pat Forde and other scribes that always deflect any incoming against us are ‘on the mark’ in December even if we (fat chance) lose another game…we’re known to all as ‘the princess’ and we’ve been the sweetest con since 1988.”

    1. There she is with a microphone to babaloo him on his noggin, but no she had to remain calm.
The day I see Scott holding the drum major sword is the day I believe USC has embraced his writings.

  3. Can there be an electric atmosphere with 40,000 people in a stadium?– Well, there was Friday night!

Having SC as my only true sports love I probably revel more in victory and revolt more in defeat than many Trojans. I am still feeling the ecstasy of the “playoff” victory over Utah.

I have been to Washington’s Husky Stadium, and some of the fans act like they would physically strike you if you cheered for the Trojans. Not nice. The new quarterback from Georgia is better than Browning, who had a hard time winning the big ones. This will be a tough one for the Trojans to pull off. But if SC can hold the interceptions to just one and hang on to the ball, they should be in this game all the way to the end.
