Former USC wide receiver Devon Williams has transferred to Oregon State, according to BeaverBlitz.com.
This is a smart move for Williams. When you transfer, you need to go somewhere you will play. It doesn’t matter how good the team will be if you want to play. And going somewhere better is a waste of time if you will not play.
Solid pickup for Oregon State. Maybe they got another Ocho Cinco

If he can show that he can be consistent (obviously part of the problem the coaches at USC mentioned) then he should be able to emerge as their star and at least get a little notice for a potential move to the next level. As hard as it is, I kinda have to agree with Flow on this one. Although, if he showed a little patience, next year could’ve been his breakout year. Shame.

Helton is not successful in keeping the men there. That is a shame. Yet, on this one, he needed to wait his turn. It is hard being a star but going to a better and comptetive environment where the talent is equal or better, this teaches you that you must practice harder and make every moment on the practice field count. Too bad. He is gonna be reeeeeeeel good.

My presumption has been that the staff made a deal to allow V. Jones to return kicks to keep him from transferring. I bet if Devon Williams was returning kicks this year, he’d still be in the program and be looking forward to a big year at WR next year. I’m sure he would’ve been better at returning kicks than Jones and it’s disappointing to lose him. They aren’t using Velus in the WR rotation, so what is his future at ‘SC or in the pros? I honestly would’ve considered switching him to defense to see what he could do on that side of the ball, because he’s not going to get drafted doing what he is doing now. If my presumption is correct, in effect, you have traded Devon Williams in order to keep Velus Jones and I don’t think that was a good deal.

IDK, Clay, Devon is too big to a be KO return man. Big targets like him don’t last because eventually they get hit low and wind up getting injured. The trade part of your assessment is spot on though. I wonder if Williams was a cancer on the team while Velus isn’t. Both kinds of guys can be either detrimental or invaluable to a team. Velus at least knows the value of a USC degree while Devon will probably be gone before he finishes school
( I hope I’m wrong or that he gets a big signing bonus when he goes pro).
Last thought, he kinda reminds of the Betiku situation in that these two specimens didn’t get playing time, but their physical gifts are very apparent. I think Betiku would have played a lot more in the present scheme especially since Rector has been hurt.

You make good points and I can’t say that I’m all that familiar with Williams. I saw him make 1 catch and remember thinking that I liked the way he moved. My real problem is that I think ANYTHING would be better than Velus. I’m not understanding why we wouldn’t at least try someone else there unless the fix was in. The guy has zero creativity and/or imagination and other than straight line speed, I don’t see anything special about him. I would definitely open that position up to whoever wants to give it a shot. I saw them put St Brown out to return a punt last week instead of TV and I’m wondering why we can’t try something else on KR.
