USC Injury Report

Kedon Slovis is not medically cleared to practice or play and did not participate Tuesday.

Clay Helton confirmed what I reported last night that safety Talanoa Hufanga is in concussion protocol. He also did not practice Tuesday. Hufanga has a “little bit” of an AC sprain, per Helton.

Also out: Cornerback Olaijah Griffin; defensive end Christian Rector and offensive guard Andrew Vorhees.

  • Tyler Vaughns even took a few snaps at QB today.

    1. In other news, trOJans are about to be hit with 3 year post season ban in basketball and have the scholarship cut to half. I know you rah rahs don’t care about basketball but there goes your bid for the NIT!

      1. Teddy,

Right about now, Thug U aka ugly should have been getting off their ncaa death penalty from the actions of the greatest cheetin’ coach, Johnny Cheetin’ Wooden. I figure 45 years would have been good enough for the evil, decit, lies, and other crud that Johnny Cheetin’ Wooden did. I laugh at the floor named after Johnny Cheetin’ Wooden. it is a joke just like Polly Povilion where the furtherest seat is in Pacoima

  1. According to sources, Fink told Clay Helton that he is going to transfer if Slovis comes back and takes the starting job. Helton was inside the Little Chapel of Silence praying that Slovis will not pass the concussion test! JT Daniels’ father was there praying that both Slovis and Fink suffer career ending injuries!

  2. So, I’ve talked about being on a journey of discovery with regards to this offense and I’m still trying to figure out all of the implications. One thing that I think we have to consider a little differently is the way we look at statistics. For instance, I don’t think we can look at a 300 yard passing day the same way that we used to. I would go as far as to say that 300 yards passing should pretty much be the floor and not the ceiling. I can easily see a lot of USC passing records being in reach for anyone who takes a lot of snaps in this offense. Not only that, but with the attention paid to the USC QB and the passing opportunities presented by this offense, it really seems like the most Heisman ready position in all of college football. Also, there are obviously people on the other end of these passes and I think a Biletnikoff award is there for the taking as well. I’m not going to pretend like an Outland Trophy appears to be in the near future, but if we can get the O-line together and protect some of this QB talent, these other awards are well within reach. Further, if the defense is going to see so many reps per game, there is a great opportunity for defensive players to get in on the act too. I’m seeing potential All Americans on defense and the Thorpe and Bednarik awards seem possible too.

I talked last week about players upholding the legacy that has been bequeathed to them and part of that legacy is the attention the USC football team gets. A large part of winning these awards has to do with getting attention and the guys who came before have already done that part for these guys. Another part of winning these awards comes with winning games and this team has the talent to win many games and many awards. What I would tell the players is that the opportunities you have in front of you now should be taken as once in a lifetime shots because they pretty much are. You don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow so you gotta make every day count and make sure you’re getting something out of every day. Getting better is an active pursuit and you gotta be chasing it every day. I know the days seem long, but the years end up being short and you never get any of it back.

      1. By self admissions, you’re limited in USC history, so why do you speak of things you know little about? Arrogance.,,that player sitting next to me in the picture is a Hall of Famer…we were 18 and 19….I saw guys like Jack Del Rio, Mark McGwire, Randy Johnson etc etc on a regular basis in 1983…..you learn a lot sitting there watching lol lol…talent? I’ve seen much up close….

      2. I’m taking your example of Pat Haden and I looked at his numbers. His last year he had about 13 pass attempts a game…he threw for 13 TDs and 11 interceptions and had a 47% completion percentage. What I need you to do is tell me what on earth that is supposed to tell me about Jack Sears? How does that history help in a conversation about Jack Sears? What is the relevancy that I am missing?

      3. In addition, I was an ALL SAN GABRIEL VALLEY—LOS ANGELES TIMES—-1981 basketball player…a league MVP, as well…other guys on that team were Cecil Fielder and Michael Powell…who’s he? ONLY THE WORLD RECORD HOLDER IN THE LONG JUMP..lol…gold medal winner…the point is, I can size up talent better than most, due to life experience you’ll never have……yet, you twist and turn…if you want to tap out, then step off..,

      4. I already said what you’re missing, ABOUT 20-30 YEARS lol…you don’t follow along very well….you’re a coach? Really? Good grief…

      5. Okay, when you’re done with your resume and name dropping, Jack Sears will still be of marginal talent and be looking for a school that is willing to let him play. When that changes, come talk to me. Otherwise, please go back to talking to yourself.

      6. I’ll pass on calling you names as I can hold up my end of an argument. You’re trying to talk about everything other than the actual argument you lost yesterday. Just STFU and go volunteer or something.

      8. You know nothing about me. The reason you’re saying I’m a coach is because you’re listening to the little voices inside your head again…I never said that. Between the way you post in here and the things you’re saying, I honestly think you need a mental health checkup. I know that sounds like a dig, but I’m being perfectly honest. You’re a long way from talking about Jack Sears and that’s what this was about. How did we get here? Because you had a legitimate point and a real argument to make? I don’t think so. Get some help, take a pill, get with your family members or something, but step off. As disrespectfully as possible, I’m telling you again to STFU because you’re just babbling like you always do. Get help.

      9. Cry from laughing at you clown. I gotta go and you’re done anyway. You get no pass and you should be more careful who you babble at. After all this, I will come and tell you that you were right when Sears gets somewhere and does well for himself. That’s the only conversation I look forward to having with you and I hope I do. Otherwise, you’re dismissed.

  3. If Stepp and Fink are allowed to do ALL the things they’re capable of (for a full sixty minutes —not just the 4th quarter), Washington could be facing a VERY different team than the one their defensive coordinator, Jimmy Lake, planned for all summer and fall. IF the o-line can protect him, Fink should be emphasizing the long game….and taking off when nothing’s there. And Stepp should be allowed to pound on Washington’s defensive line for 4 quarters.

    1. To date(4 games): USC quarterbacks have been sacked 5 times for 38 yards…..5 sacks in 4 games, you might be sporadic in the run game, if your primary concern looked to be pass protection…each week is a question?

      2. You might make a hopeful case that BYU was on a little letdown after USC….or, USC could improve the turnover ratios. they’re -5 in turnovers on the year….

Please refer to Fink as the new George Blanda. Both love to throw the bomb. Now, that is an air raid offense when you are bombing. LOLOL.

  4. What kind of running backs coach would let Carr keep dancing around at the line of scrimmage thru four games? Why isn’t he told to make ONE cut and, then, take off?
