A USC assistant coach I spoke to this week told me I should be grateful Markese Stepp got even 10 carries vs. Notre Dame.
“The reason he got in the first quarter at all was because he is from Indiana,” the coach said. “If we played another team, he probably would have waited until the second quarter.”
If you are skeptical, think back to the USC-Alabama game in 2016.
Aca’Cedric Ware really had little business playing in that game. But he got six carries. Why? Because he was from Texas and the game was at AT&T Stadium, which was 25 miles from where he grew up.
This is the Clay Helton way.
Yeah that really is an indictment to say something like that as to how clueless one is as a head coach

Don’t be surprised if Markese Stepp gets plenty of carries against Arizona, because Clay Helton is not just getting criticized by the fans, but also the national media. He really is coming across as an idiot buffoon, and sometimes I wonder if he actually wants to get fired

Helton: “I am not a buffoon. I am a man who looks out for the players. And just USC’s players (that would be so fucked up). I look out for the other team’s players too. Stepp sometimes runs right smack into d-lineman.”

Getting fired makes him $9-10 MILLION. If SC cans him & he doesn’t accept a lower buyout then the school should treat him the way LAUSD treats teachers who are on ‘timeout’ but can’t be fired.

In other news, Clancy plans to start Jayden Williams and Dorian Hewett against Arizona. Two great, hard working kids —but they’re part of this last class and both of them were rated in the low 300’s coming out of high school. This Saturday is where we’re gonna really start seeing the “Helton Effect.”

That wouldn’t be punishment to Clay.

That is such a bunch of balderdash! The reason why Stepp got into the game in the first quarter is because USC got the ball first to begin the game. It allowed the Trojans to get the ball three times in the first quarter. He is USC’s #3 back. Malepaeai was in for the first series. Carr was in for the second series. And Stepp came in the game in the third series. Most times, the third series occurs in the second quarter. In the Notre Dame game, it was the first quarter. Bottom line is that Stepp playing in the first quarter had nothing to do with the fact he was from Indiana.

i’d hate to think this is true. in fact, i’d consider that alone a fireable offense. but we’ve come to see that helton plans for everything (wave to everyone, jake olson) except how to win the goddamned game. the way stepp was carrying this team (and the irish) on his back, how do keep that dude on the sideline?!?!?! so. over. it. (and no offense to the great jake olson. his story will inspire for decades to come. ✌🏽)

Another look at this indicates that Helton is such a father figure, he granted permission to lowly Stepp to carry the football. Helton warned Stepp to be careful not to hurt anyone by running into them. “We maintain football etiquette out there,” Helton was heard to say. Stepp had to apologize to his fatherly coach telling Helton he was sorry he’d misheard the advice. ” You know I thought I heard-go break some football eggs kid ”
Stepp said. It took nine carries before the coach realized he was being played by his running back.

This posted on Facebook as a dirty nut grab which caused the Trojan to raise his leg so it could be injured. Gaoteote’s leg comes up after his junk is fondled (please no Pudly jokes)
I thought about this and remembered my nephew telling about being tickled in a game. The goal was to get my nephew’s knee to jerk forward so the lineman could wishbone his hips by dropping his body weight on them.

Rialto —A lot of the shit that happens in South Bend every other year is too off the chart to “just happen.” It has to be the way those guys are coached to play football. Glad Helton congratulated Notre Dame and their Coach and the officials after the game….

In the movie PLATOON in boot, gunny refers to that as a ‘reach around’.
Too bad that picture can’t be advertised & promoted NATIONALLY….to all ND FB opponents & ND sororities & ND students & parents & prospective recruits and their parents.

Cal75 —If I didn’t know better, I’d guess that the Notre Dame players don’t really respect what the images on the chapel across from the field stand for….

It wouldn’t be so hard to make that pic go viral. Some enterprising SC fratboys could handle it. Would take about 1-2,000 posters mailed in tubes to the right people. $20,000 project. Mailing lists. ND’s worst nightmare.
